Grilling season is in full swing and it is time you thought about tossing out the old rusty model you have been clinging to for so many years. We have a little guidance in selecting a new model that will not only impress your neighbors, but ease you through many summers ahead. Unlike our pal Hank Hill, we prefer using real charcoal for a better tasting product.

When using charcoal, we recommend natural lump charcoal and not briquettes which can be laced with undesirable ingredients. Lump charcoal burns hot, and with some brands your grill can reach over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. Perfect for grilling steaks. You just can’t get this kind of heat out of briquettes. Plus there is very little waste cleanup with natural charcoal.          Continue reading

Norma’s Cafe Honors Former Police Sergeant

Dallas dining icon, Norma’s Cafe, will partner with Special Olympics Texas on Wednesday, May 22 for the sixth annual Law Enforcement Torch Run’s Tip-A-Cop event. This year’s event is in honor of Sergeant Brad Freis, a former Addison Police Department officer who passed away last July. Sergeant Freis was actively involved with Special Olympics Texas and helped raise millions of dollars for the organization.

Sergeant Freis spent 38 years as a motor officer, sergeant and mentor with the Addison Police Department, and after his retirement, he remained actively involved with the department and surrounding community through Special Olympics Texas. He was a member of the organization’s Presidents Advisory Council, ran and organized the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, and represented Texas at a Special Olympics World Games Final Leg. He was inducted into the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Hall of Fame in July 2016. Continue reading

San Martin Offers Delicious Guatemalan Pastries And Much More

For its U.S. debut, San Martin Artisan Bakery & Restaurant has opened up shop in uptown Dallas. Located in an old gallery, San Martin’s Dallas outpost boasts over 7,800 square feet and a menu of authentic Guatemalan sandwiches, soups and pastries.

Everything on San Martin’s menu is made from scratch, with dressings, sauces and soups all made in-house. Apart from their full-service restaurant, San Martin also has retail bakery, where guests can purchase pastries, bread, coffee and tea to carry out. Continue reading
