Celebrate Bourdain Day with a Dallas Pop-Up That Will Not Soon be Forgotten

Tomorrow, June 25th, has been pronounced Anthony Bourdain Day.  This began with a tweet from Eric Repart and José Andrés, both devoted friends of Bourdain. They called upon the planet to give pause for remembrance and celebration of the man who wrote tomes such as Kitchen Confidential and televised his world foodie and humanitarian travels. First Look: Chino Chinatown

Trinity Groves has shaped up to be one of the premier foodie destinations in Dallas over the past year. It was nearly one year ago when we spoke with Phil Romano as he laid out the plans and aspirations for for his patch of land just beyond the beautiful and newly inaugurated Margaret Hunt-Hill Bridge. Since that time much of what Romano promised has come to fruition in the form of a handful of unique incubator restaurants. Today marks the opening of yet another concept in Chino Chinatown, the brainchild of Uno Immanivong and Adrian Verdin.     Continue reading

‘The Taste’ Has A Little Less Flavor Without Uno

Last night on the latest edition of The Taste, local chef Uno Immanivong was booted from the program. I do not normally report on television and reality programs, but Dallas had a vested interest in seeing this particular chef win the big prize. We certainly cannot depend on the Cowboys for bringing home the honors. However, our local chefs seem to fare rather well on television, and Uno took the news in stride and now focuses on her new Trinity Groves restaurant, Chino, which should be open in a matter of a few short months.

Last night I stopped by the Sunset Lounge where the chef gathered a large handful of people to watch the program. This took a certain amount of grace knowing that within an hour the news of her demise would be revealed, but it was fitting to be surrounded by her Chino business partner and the rest of her long-time friends.        Continue reading

Bourdain Stumbles Upon Secret Service Kegger

We weren’t sure if Anthony Bourdain was pulling our leg when we saw his Tweet this past Sunday evening that said “The guys who rented our phones in #Myanmar before us were Secret Service. They should really have deleted their texts. #Kegparty!” We are used to a certain irreverence from Bourdain as it is part of his charm, however State Department officials took notice of the message that went out to his million followers.  Continue reading
