Alex Perez Speaks Out About the Spicy Chili Donut Contest at Hypnotic

by Alex Perez

I get asked all the time, “Alex, why do you do the crazy things you do like food competitions?”  I tell them that besides enjoying pain and suffering, I actually enjoy chowing down the food.  That brings me to this past Saturday’s event held at Hypnotic Donuts in East Dallas – The Spicy Chile Donut Eating Contest.  I normally cancel everything to commit and do as many food competitions as possible but due to the conflicting dates of a pre-existing event, I was not going to attend the donut challenge.  So I thought.  I must admit that I was a tad saddened about not being able to compete in the Spicy Donut competition, but that all changed Friday morning.

I received news Friday from a friend that we were in fact not going on our planned trip and quickly made the decision to email Hypnotic Donuts to sign up for the challenge.  The owner of Hypnotic, James, responded quickly and confirmed I had a spot in the competition. It was on.          Continue reading →

Beat The Heat Contest At Hypnotic

by Steven Doyle

You must give the folks at Hypnotic some props. They know how to promote their product well and they make a mean donut. Today we are sent word that they are hosting a donut eating contest, but with a kick.

To win this contest you need to eat the most donuts in 10 minutes, but there is a catch. As each donut is presented to the contestant it gets spicier and spicier – to the point of extreme. The winner receives the distinction of being the first to win the inaugural competition and a free Mexico donut each week through the end of 2012.   Continue reading →

Chefs Line Up To Make Their Dream Hypnotic Donut

by Steven Doyle

Last week we announced that Hypnotic Donuts was inviting guest chefs to create a donut or something to offer their donut eating clientele. First at bat was David Anthony Temple, or better known as Chef DAT the underground chef.

DAT decided to play with the chicken and biscuits that Hypnotic is already so good at creating. This version would play homage to DAT’s childhood where he has been eating this kicked up version of the biscuit since he was seven years old.    Continue reading →

Goodfriend To Open Package Store

by Steven Doyle

The cicerone at Union Bear, Jeff Fryman, has tendered his resignation and leaving for a new venture owned by the gents that brought us Goodfriend in east Dallas. Josh Yingling and Matt Tobin will be opening what is tentatively called the Goodfriend Package Store which will be located across the street from Goodfriend the bar which is currently a laundromat.

Fryman’s duties will include assisting customers with their beer selection and driving potential guests across the street to enjoy the beers on tap. Unlike the area on Greenville Avenue where the World Beer Company is located and can actually serve beer in addition to selling packages to go, the area where Goodfriend is located is zoned to prohibit such an operation.     Continue reading →

Hypnotic Donuts Does Biscuits Too

by Steven Doyle

Donuts might not be the most politically correct food that you might choose, but when did that ever stop us. Seriously, donuts filled with imagination as well as plenty of bacon, Cap’n Crunch or jalapenos cannot be wrong and Hypnotic Donuts hit’s the spot.

When you meet donut mogul and owner James St. Peter you can’t help but sport a smile. This man is seriously the Willy Wonka of fried dough and seems to meet each day with verve which is spoon-fed by his artistry. This leaves his customers in total fascination. St. Peter’s product is total comfort food at its finest.     Continue reading →
