Last week on craveRADIO we had in studio the bodacious Bob Stephenson from FnG Eats in Keller. Chef Bob was gracious enough to bring the crave staffers a bountiful feast of Habanero Peach BBQ Ribs, El Comal Baked Beans, a little Mac a J.A.C and Texas Sweet Tea. Needless to say, we need more guests like Bob.
We discussed the menu at FnG, which happens to be fun plays on a lot of familiar dishes, and the good chef enraptured us with a poem. You see, Bob is what they call a Poetry Slammer. When Tate’s Craft Cocktails owner John Tate opened his second bar on McKinney Avenue we were thrilled. The smallish cocktail den served small bites and glorious cocktails. The opening manager was Matt Ceneviva who had previously managed the first location in Winston-Salem. After working the bar and getting the program up to speed Ceneviva moved back home to Winston-Salem. Enter JW Tate, a young but bad ass barman who had been honing his skills in New York. I stopped in Tate’s Craft Cocktails located on McKinney Avenue last week when I was tooling around town with cocktail maven Jason Kosmas and we met the new manager and chief barman, JW Tate. JW is the son of the owner and comes to Dallas from Winston-Salem, North Carolina where the original bar is located.
You may recall Tate’s opened in Dallas back in December with Matt Ceneviva at the helm. I spoke with Matt about JW and he said, “I worked with JW when he first started bartending and the grasshopper has actually outreached the master.” Continue reading →
