Texas Fast-Casual Chain ‘Project Pollo’ to be on Shark Tank on 5/20

Project Pollo, America’s first vegan chick’n fast-casual chain (and largest growing vegan restaurant in the US) with locations across Texas, will be featured on ABC’s Shark Tank season finale, which airs this Friday, May 20 at 7pm CT / 8pm ET. The popular national reality TV show lets entrepreneurs present their ideas to the “sharks” in the tank to try and convince one of them to invest money into their idea.

Troy Gardner is a clever man. You may remember chef Troy from his hotdoggin’ days when he owned Samson’s Gourmet Hot Dogs on Oak Lawn. Then he was putting out a terrific product, both for the omnivores as well as the vegans alike. Today he is running the helm at V-Eats Modern Vegan in Trinity Groves, a cozy little hot spot that is thriving selling only vegan dishes to pretty much anyone who loves food.   Continue reading →

Vegan and Vegetarian Menu at III Forks

While many restaurants have begun offering more vegetable-forward dining, when vegetarians and vegans visit large traditional steakhouses, they’re often relegated to a bowl of pasta with steamed or sautéed vegetables.

Noted steakhouse III Forks recognizes that not all of their diners are meat eaters, but all of their diners do deserve an exceptional culinary experience.  The steakhouse has launched an expanded vegetarian and vegan menu (attached) which highlights dishes that work for either dietary choice. Kalachandji’s Offers A Cuisine Unlike Any In Dallas

One of my first visits to Kalachandji’s was as a college student, and it was Thanksgiving. The meal included a visit to the Krishna temple escorted by one of the many devotees who live in the neighboring homes. With the meal we enjoyed a tofu turkey, which was actually much more delicious than it sounds. Although the spice level is very minimal, the repast was elegant and flavorful. We dined in the open air patio which is centered inside the restaurant.

During subsequent visits I was shown more of the cuisine, and always have a great sampling at the luncheon buffet which is excellently curated by the cooks, setting out just enough for the guests as necessary as not to compromise the quality of the food.   Continue reading →

Vegan Nature’s Plate Opens in Preston Forest Square

Nature’s Plate, the go-to vegan eatery is now open at Preston Forest Square (11811 Preston Road, suite 101) in the NW quadrant next to Run On.  The plant-based prepared meals concept with grab and and go fare as well as weekly meal plans is the second location of the eatery founded by sisters Annette Baker and Marianne Lacko.

Nature’s Plate started as a small business venture in 2011 and quickly expanded to a storefront and kitchen in East Dallas offering meals, snacks and desserts to-go and weekly meal plans. The Preston Forest location is also open 7 days a week and offers North Dallas an option for vegan meal plan pick-up. Continue reading →

Nature’s Plate, the go-to vegan eatery in Lake Highlands is opening a second location  at Preston Forest Square (11811 Preston Road) in the NW quadrant next to Run On.  The plant-based offerings concept with grab and and go offerings is expected to open December 2017.

Dallas’ favorite all-local farmers market – Good Local Markets and vegan pop-up V Market DFW come together on Saturday, August 19 (8am-1pm) for a special market at Tyler Street in Oak Cliff.

Every Good Local Markets vendor grows or makes what they sell with no distribution.  GLM vendors including Half Moon Pie Co., Lonesome Lady Ranch, Grow it Forward Farm, Affinity Soapery, Texas Honey Bee Guild, DFW Aquaponics, The Sconer, 24 Atoms Coffee and Highway 19 offer produce, artisanal foods and handcrafted goods, all produced within 150 miles of Dallas.
