Jesus BBQ and a Heavenly Rahr Tasting

19_2011_01_JesusBBQ-1by Steven Doyle                 photos by Robert Bostick

We always enjoy a good beer tour, and Rahr Brewery in Fort Worth is no exception. You will find owner and host Fritz Rahr twice weekly in his warehouse digs jawing with his community of beer aficionados about the finer points of brewing and all things beer.

Each week the tour allows his guests to sample several beers for the mere purchase of a Rahr commemorative glass, with some of the proceeds going to a local charity who helps work the event. In addition there is typically some sort of musical guest and caterer on hand to feed the hungry masses.   Continue reading →

Webb Gallery Shows Plato o Plomo

by Crave Staff

Camp Bosworth from Marfa, Texas continues his show Plato o Plomo at the Webb Gallery in Waxahachie, just outside of Dallas. The exhibit is thought to be particularly brave as they cover thoughts and illustrations of the border politics, especially as it pertains to the ongoing drug cartels. This unusual and provoking show displays sophisticated wood carvings.     Continue reading →

Soft Drink Pairings at Burger King: Contest

by Crave Staff

We don’t even know what to say about this.  Sure, something sarcastic would be fun.  How about you write the caption.  All entries go into our magic hat for a prize drawing.  We will announce the winner here tomorrow afternoon.  The prize will be better than a BK Veggie Burger paired with a Diet Coke.

Cocktail of the Week: Bolsa

by Steven Doyle

Last evening I had a chance to stop in Bolsa for a nibble and a few cocktails. If you recall Wednesday is when Bolsa has their special cocktail night where they take suggestions from Facebook  friends in pairing ingredients with the spirit of the week to make five lush specialty cocktails.

Walking into Bolsa we were greeted by one of our favorite barmen in Dallas, Eddie “Lucky” Campbell. Lucky has been busy as of late not only covering his shifts at Bolsa, but also developmental work for the cocktail program at Mesa  (the hot new Mex-Mex in Oak Cliff) and is about to introduce the new cocktails at Bailey’s Prime Plus  next week in a collaboration with Cedars Social Michael Martensen.

This city of ours is fast becoming steeped up in cocktail holiness and we are all the beneficiary.

If my head is hurting today, and I am walking a bit slower than normal then allow me to show you why.  Jump!   Continue reading →

The Modern Golden Rule

Toni

My fiancé and I are getting married in less than a month.  Normally, we mess around a little before we go to bed, but lately he started bringing sex toys (nipple clamps) into the mix.  I’m a virgin and he’s not, so this kind of thing bothers me a bit.  I’m not a prude, but at the same time I’m just not ready to do certain things when we haven’t even had sex yet.  Maybe once we do, I’ll feel comfortable enough to experiment, but right now I’m not.  I’m starting to think there’s another sexual side to him that I don’t know about.  How do I handle this before I say, “I do?

Le Bernardin – New York City

by David Donalson

Le Bernardin needs no introduction but I am going to give one anyway. It is the home of Eric Ripert, three Michelin stars and some absolutely amazing seafood. With a camera, it was time to take some pictures and eat some great food and wine. The table decided to just do the prix fixe dinner menu, a 4 course meal, under the condition of sharing so some of the plates are not what you might see on the tasting menu. Continue reading →

Food Photo of the Week

by Crave Staff

We realize it’s just Wednesday, but we found this photo on a friends Facebook wall and couldn’t resist sharing. The young Mikayla devoured this Mecca cinnamon roll mere minutes after the photo was taken with the handy assistance of her sister Ashley. Bacon and cinnamon rolls make a complete breakfast we hear.

All cinnamon rolls should be bigger than your head.
