As we heard from the press release this week, the Joule is adding on (was the construction for the past six months a huge hint?) The boutique hotel is undergoing a 78 million dollar renovation that will includea new restaurant and playground facilities for adults. Here is a piece from that press release: Continue reading

First Look: Zio Cecio Cucina Italiana
Last night we slipped in to check out the latest in Italian restaurants in the Dallas area, Zio Cecio Cucina Italiana which is located on Lover’s Lane very near the original Neighborhood Services. The restaurant resides in the former Café Italia space but bears little resemblance to the old restaurant.
Upon entering the new restaurant we found chef-owner Francesco Farris formerly of Arcodoro and Pomodoro which he opened with his brother. Farris is known for his fresh and rustic Sardinian-style Italian food, and is known for his amazing ravioli which has won him awards. Continue reading

Dallas Beer Festival Salvaged?
We just received a call from Cathy Rascoe the coordinator of Dallas Beer Week and the recently canceled Dallas Beer Festival. After the initial explanation that pre-ticket sales simply precluded the event from taking place, Rascoe went into deeper explanation.
“We had just over 100 tickets pre-sold for the event Saturday and that just wasn’t enough to go forward. We did the festival last week in Houston and we had between 650 and 700 tickets sold in advance. There were an additional 250 walk-ups that really made the event successful,” said Rascoe. Happiness is a Warm CFS at Cowtown Diner
Happiness is contagious. All week and continuing through until Monday, January 16, 2012, Cowtown Diner in Fort Worth’s Sundance Square is asking diners to spread the love and share something good that has happened. More happiness follows, as 10 percent of the diner’s check also goes to work for others as a donation to Tarrant Area Food Bank.
Guests simply write down anything good or positive in their lives – whatever they are grateful for – and the message is posted on a wall in Cowtown Diner for everyone to share the warm fuzzies. Continue reading

Clapner Hosting Chocolate Event at Las Colinas Beverage
Recently Katherine Clapner of Dude, Sweet Chocolate has been taking her wares on the road. Last week she could be found at the Bottle Shop on Greenville Avenue pairing chocolate with beer. This Friday she is pairing wines with chocolate, and then Saturday she moves on to cheese.
As many know, Clapner is about the unexpected when it comes to her chocolate and she delights in showing its versatility. Pairing chocolate with wine might be more expected, but matching chocolate with cheese and beer gives us insight to her charm. Continue reading

Dallas Beer Festival Canceled
This was found on the Dallas Beer Festival’s web page Tuesday afternoon:
Hello fellow beer fan,
Unfortunately, we have notify everyone that the Dallas Beer Festival will be postponed indefinitely.
We’ve done our best to provide incredible craft beer, entertainment, and everything else a great festival brings. You’ve seen other large-scale beer events in Dallas in the last year, which have been sponsored by large-scale breweries you’re familiar with. As avid craft beer fans, we chose to create this festival without these sponsors. However, ticket sales have been extremely slow, and in recent days, it has become increasingly apparent that the financial risk is just too high for us to take. We’d really like to get this right the first time around, but we just haven’t been able to generate the interest this festival needs to succeed this year.
Obviously, anyone who purchased a ticket will receive a full refund for the cost of your ticket(s). We have already contacted our ticketing company (Showclix), and your refund will post back to your account in the next 7-10 days.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has has caused, and we certainly hope to make a few adjustments and hold this festival next year. This announcement only affects the Dallas Beer Festival and not any other event that is scheduled. Thanks very much for your understanding, and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Update: Pre-sales were in the 100’s.

Wachu TacoBot, Willis? The Cedar’s Social
By Danielle Leahym photos by Jacque Manaugh
The Cedar’s Social is one of the most buzzed about restaurants in Dallas this year. With is dark, sexy 70’s throwback interior, amazing and exhaustively researched drink menu, and ownership by former NFL player Brian Williams there are lots of reason The Cedar’s Social keeps popping up in the news around town, not the least of which has to do with it’s food. The food here is very good, in many cases great. Sure it can be on the pricey side but many agree what it might lack in affordability it more than makes up for in ambiance, mood, music, and execution.
If you want a romantic date night that doesn’t feel traditional, campy, or old fashioned The Cedar’s Social is the place for you. If you want some of the best drinks in town made by the some of the best bartenders in DFW, then The Cedar’s Social is the place for you. But what if you want tacos? Well thank God for The Cedar’s Social $2 Taco Tuesday’s because in this most holiest of food genres, The Cedars Social also has you covered. Continue reading

What’s for Supper, Grandpa?
I am not sure if you have seen any of the old reruns of Hee Haw that will pop up on television on the occasional Saturday afternoon, but there was a segment where a character named Grandpa Jones would rattle off a litany of crazy country cooking and pronounce it supper. The last few days seems like it has been a similar feeding frenzy. A burger here, a whole fish there, and a few cups of pho to settle it all in for the day.
I thought it might be interesting to show a few photos of what I have had over the past week. If you have some recent food shots you wish to share with the craveDFW audience, feel free to send them our way with a description. Continue reading
