Barlow Wines And The Second Floor Bistro: A Perfect Pairing

barlow1by Melissa Robert

As spring in Texas refuses to make a choice between the chill of winter and the warmth of summer, now is the perfect time to gather with friends to discover new wines and enjoy an excellent meal. Last night I was fortunate to do both at the private dining room, Prive, located next to The Second Floor Bistro inside the Westin Galleria Dallas. Chefs Scott Gottlich and Daniel Tarasevich brought in Barr Smith of Barlow Vineyard for a memorable dinner and wine experience comprised of four courses and four featured Barlow wines.

If you haven’t seen the Prive space yet, it’s beautifully appointed. From the chic hanging lighting fixtures, which I’d love to have one or two of, to the elegant high back white leather chairs, this private dining room was the ideal location for the evening. As guests arrived, they were greeted with a glass of Spanish cava and an affable hello from Gina Gottlich, sommelier to both Bijoux and The Second Floor Bistro. Eager food and wine lovers chatted around the sleek bar area and absorbed the ambiance of smiling faces and aromas beginning to waft in from the kitchen; an enticing menu awaited diners at their seats.    Continue reading →

craveRADIO: April 21, 2013

Andre1by Steven Doyle       photos by Robert Bostick

This week on craveRADIO we hosted guest Andre Natera who recently took on the top toque position at Village Marquee Grill in Highland Park Village. There the chef casts his own special flare on his locally sourced cuisine. Chef Natera explained that his style relied heavily on classic French technique. This is why his dishes are fresh and approachable, without much of the faddish glam that can often be found in some of the top American restaurants across the country. Natera labeled his style as modern regional Texas-Inspired cuisine.     Continue reading →

Mot Hai Ba Brings Northern Vietnamese Cuisine To Lakewood

Mot Hai Ba.jpgby Steven Lindsey

One, Two, Three, Pho. If it’s dark outside, you won’t be eating Pho. At least not when Mot Hai Ba (pronounced mo’oht high bah and translates to “one, two, three”) opens today.

That’s because the flavorful soup is never served at dinner in Vietnam. And it’s that kind of authenticity that Jeana Johnson & Colleen O’Hare (Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House, Good 2 Go Taco) plan to infuse into everything at their newest venture.

Well, except maybe the French wines and Belgian beers. That’s more a tradition-in-the-making.    Continue reading →

Ultimate Dallas Cowboys Tailgate Party 2013 Benefits NTFB

kentby Andrew Chalk

Sunday night the Dallas Cowboys set themselves a target of raising $200,000 for the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB). An important goal, as the NTFB is $600,000 short of their annual target and the fiscal year ends in June. To get to the target, the Cowboys held the Ultimate Cowboys Tailgate Party.

At an event emceed by Dallas Cowboys DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher alongside former players Preston Pearson, Chad Hennings and Daryl Johnston, guests got the chance to bid in a live auction for such things as wine country luxury getaways, chefs tasting meals for 10 at Abacus, lunch with “Christopher Ewing” (Jesse Metcalfe) and a pit pass and suite at three races at North Texas Motor Speedway. Supplementing the live auction was a silent auction with dozens of lots including Cowboys memorabilia, meals at local restaurants, wines and spirits.       Continue reading →
