Orno Brings Life To Cedar Springs

DSC03231by Steven Doyle

Once every so often, the stars align and the food gods shine upon us and we discover a beautiful little restaurant in an oasis all to its own where the wine pours magnificently, the cocktails are superb and the food will make your heart skip a bit with passion. Orno on Cedar Springs seems to be one of these restaurants.

Located in the Gayborhood which is oddly filled with burger options, sans the marvelous Peasant Pizzeria which just opened months ago. The finer dining options seem to have crept away from an area which should be an obvious choice for those with discriminating tastes.  Orno does fit this bill. It is not a place to shoot bad whiskey, but instead a slice of another place in another land.  Continue reading →

ChefBeckyFoulk-1.jpgby Nafeisa Shukair-Farley

Soup is a necessity for our soul.  It warms us when we are cold, soothes us when we are sick and creates a meal when only food odds and ends are available.  We throw stuff into a pot, add broth and a boil with a simmer later, soups on! My love for soup brought me to local Chef Becky Foulk and her cookbook, “Cooking Soup to Nuts.”

Normally Crave guides you to the best restaurants in Dallas but this time, we are in Chef Becky’s home kitchen to talk soup, make soup and most importantly, eat soup.  We also discussed her cookbook and the inspiration behind it. Continue reading →

Tim Love’s Ultimate Guide to Ribs

ribsby Kate Krader

It’s easier than ever to fake your way through a summertime cookout. You’ve heard about the test tube burger; you had to, it cost $33,000. Meanwhile, sales of alternative meat products, like faux hot dogs, continue to rise (to more than $550 million last year). The one cookout staple that doesn’t easily lend itself to veganism is ribs. So, before someone comes up with a test tube version, let’s shout out epic pork and beef ribs around the country.

Texas star chef Tim Love, whose restaurants include the Lonesome Dove Western Bistro and Love Shack, happens to be a ribs expert. He kindly provided a list of his favorite ribs spots—both pork and beef. Believe it or not, he’s got his eyes wide open enough to find a go-to place in Toronto.    Continue reading →
