The Hunt For A Bowl Of Red: Tolbert’s Restaurant

Last week we began a short series that explored chili in the DFW area. We began with Jack’s Southern Comfort Food located on lowest Greenville Avenue where we found some pretty tremendous chili. We are hoping to uncover more bowls as we continue our search. We have had many really interesting suggestions, and we plan to hit them all up to see if Dallas is really a chili town.

That being said, we loaded up the crave wagon and aimed it towards Grapevine where the legacy of chili resides. Tolbert’s Restaurant is now owned by Frank X. Tolbert’s daughter, Kathleen Tolbert Ryan who also runs the big chili festival in Terlingua, which I am mighty happy to make that pilgrimage each year in November. Continue reading

DFW Airport Steps Up Culinary Offerings

Terminal D of DFW has become a place that is actually pleasant to wait for a flight. It is helped by the presence of food that is worth your time, since you have to wait over an hour for your flight anyway, right? I was recently graced with a bit of “extra time” and thought I might try III Forks. Astounded they would be there in my favored Terminal D, I couldn’t imagine that it could hold up to the original.  Continue reading

Frisco Gun Club To Open Summer 2013

What happens when you combine fine dining with your favorite pistol? No, it’s not a scene out of the Old West, instead it is Frisco Gun Club CEO Christian Putnam’s brainchild of luxury gun ownership. Taco Cina Closed

Ace photographer Joey Stewart (who is actually a film maker, but loves to play with us at craveDFW) sent me a text showing me that my favorite queso joint had closed. Taco Cina, which was a bit hidden on the southwest corner of Preston and Royal, served up a few really good crunchy tacos and did a fine job on their chips and queso at a bargain price.  Continue reading

Peak And Elm Update: Opens Feb 8

Tonight I will be checking out the menu at Peak and Elm Cocina, the new restaurant which is about to open in East Dallas. We broke the story many months ago so perhaps you do not recall all the fun details, you can read that story here. Capriotti’s Moving Into Preston Center

The sub chain Capriotti’s is moving into the hot bed for restaurants in the Dallas area, Preston Center. The sandwich shop which has locations in Plano and Downtown Dallas will move into the old Extreme Pizza location located at 6112 Luther Lane in University Park.

Mudsmith Opens Monday Jan 28

Brooke Humphries, owner of Acme F&B, Barcadia Bar and Grill, and It’ll Do, will open the doors at Mudsmith this coming Monday, January 28th .  Mudsmith promises to deliver a unique coffee shop experience serving celebrated Four Barrel coffee out of San Francisco.

We broke this story back in November noting that Humphries will be using the amazing Four Barrel Coffee that you actually must submit a plea along with your menu and concept information before you can be approved to sell the product.
