Not the type of news you might want to hear the day before Christmas, but a handful of employees of the hotdoggery on McKinney wrote in to say that Bowery has shuttered. No word from the owners just yet, but we will keep you updated.

Update: Word is that Bowery will be relocated.

First Look: Outpost American Tavern

DSC04687by Steven Doyle

When they aren’t uber-designing a new restaurant around Dallas or Fort Worth, the dynamic team of John Paul Valverde and Miguel Vicens are making a go at restaurateur life at the funky digs in Oak Cliff in what was once a single family dwelling, then their first born Campo Modern Country Bistro. Campo never really hit her stride despite all the fantastical elements you could possibly afford a restaurant, including a star consulting chef like Matt McCallister and finishing with one of the best kept secret chefs in Dallas, Michael Ehlert. By the way for those keeping score at home, Ehlert is in the kitchen at Hibiscus on Henderson.

A few months later and some serious hammer and nailing, the tiny house has been drawn into yet another hip and cozy dwelling for those seeking out a fresh take on classic food finds. Enter Outpost American Tavern. Now deep up in its first week with the doors wide open, the unique looking taproom is once again creating a buzz throughout the food loving community.  Continue reading

Patrizio Osteria To Open On McKinney And In Arlington

DSC04642by Steven Doyle

Last night we made the trek to check out Patrizio Osteria in Southlake. The new location borderlines over-the-top in appointment and definitely pulls off the new menu in high fashion. We spotted a familiar face on the management team and were pleased to see Bob’s Steak and Chop alumnus Ken Kuczwaj making his way around the room. We also spotted one of the new owners, Oscar Renda, who knows plenty about Italian food and the way it should be presented.

The menu may look familiar to anyone who has patronized Patrizio in the past. This is the Americanized Italian cuisine that has people flocking to the various restaurants dotted across the Metroplex. Most of these dishes appeal to the average American palate that haven’t sampled true Italian food. But the true star to the new version of the concept lies in the Osteria menu. These are your house-made pastas laden with ingredients from Italy, slow cooked pork shank, fresh fish selections and a beautiful variety of buffala buratta. Continue reading

Joyce and Gigi’s Kitchen is a modern South American restaurant, owned and operated by Joyce Stenvall and her daughter Gigliola Aguilera. The couple’s primary focus is giving a modern twist to traditional foods from Bolivia, Argentina, Peru and Brazil. They include on their menu Feijoada, Churrasco with homemade South American sausage and Majadito, a Bolivian dried chile red risotto with plantains and duck confit.  Also look for interesting starters such as empanadas stuffed with blend of cheeses, beef and duck, served with a locoto salsa, or the Causa Limena which are yellow potato croquettes filled with crab meat and served with avocado puree.  Continue reading
