Get Ready For Hatch Peppers!

by Steven Doyle

It’s time to gear up once again for one of our favorite times of the year, Hatch Chile Season. No one does Hatch Chile’s better in Dallas than Central Market with all the grandeur deserving the flavorful pepper.

For those that participated in the season last year know it was a particularly spicy season with even the mild versions having an extra bit of kick. It will be interesting to see how the weather this year affects the peppers on the Scoville front.

This will mark the 16th season for Central Market since they first fired up their first batch of chilies creating a great stir that has continued to gain momentum as one of the market’s top festivities. Continue reading

Week in Review: Scotch, In-N-Out and a Case of the Crabs

SpokesPup for Glenfiddich

by Steven Doyle

Another amazing week at craveDFW. Our statistics department claims that many of you love to read us, and its no wonder since the same department related that Crave readers have a 16% greater chance at finding love in a photo booth, and 33% likelier to have off-spring with above average intelligence.

I saw DMN Mr. Dallas out last night and he happily pointed out that this was the week of scotch tasting everywhere. I smacked my liver and thought for a moment and realized that it had been an exciting week for the spirit what with Glenfiddich, Dalmore and other brands sweeping through the city sampling their wares at various upscale venues and liquor stores in Dallas. It is not surprising since each of the distillers pointed out that Dallas buys more scotch than any city in North America.  Continue reading

A Visit with Spain’s Isma Prados

by Steven Doyle

Exciting does not describe the pure thrill of anticipation as we scan the series of events taking place at Central Market over the next few weeks. As we look through the multi-page flyer provided at nearly every check out counter at any of the market’s locations state-wide we get the feeling that Central Market has more than done their homework for the annual event that celebrates a different country each year. What a fantastic primer in geography, culture and cuisine and basically all things Spain.

For a greater appreciation of the event we implored the management of Central Market to allow us face time with some of the imported chefs. There are more than a few Spanish Michelin starred chefs milling about the Dallas Fort Worth area this week preparing for the Espana debut, and we were able to catch up with one of the more charming ones, Chef Isma Prados.    Continue reading
