We always look forward to an up-tick on the average Mexican cuisine in Dallas as often we can be complacent with what should be one of our finer cuisines. Meso Maya fits that bill nicely.
Part two of our dual restaurant first-look party finds us at Mesa Maya that opened in unison yesterday with Dough in the Preston Forest Shopping Center where the former CHIC From Barcelona was located. We were just off the heels of a stint at the newly opened and fresh-faced Dough when we recalled the another opening set for the same day. We moseyed on over for a look see. Continue reading

It’s not often you meet a chef like Tom Fleming – he’s edgy, funny, brutally honest, and knows good food starts from the heart. Originally from Chicago, he worked under Jean Joho at Everest and later won a James Beard Award for “Best New Restaurant” at Brasserie Jo for Joho.
The youngest of 7, Fleming found his love for food right from the beginning. His strong set of skills from a classical French training background began at a young age with his mother, who was a French trained cook and later spent time in France where he staged at Paul Bocuse and L’Auberge de I’ille. Last evening Garden Café played host venue for the latest edition of Café Momentum, the pop-up dinner series that is assisting the financing of the Momentum project and serves as a culinary training facility for disadvantaged youth.
As we have reported in the past, Café Momentum will eventually find a home in the Dallas area as a non-profit restaurant that will over a year train in all aspects of restaurant service, giving the employees a head start to a career. Continue reading
