Sunday Brunch: Blue Plate

by Joy Jangles

With a new year ahead of us, we’re full of new ideas and changes. We’ve become more curious – especially about our food: pushing to connect to our roots again, striving to find the true origins of our ingredients and living life consciously with good energy all around.

At Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen, Chef Rathbun transforms his food memories into his very own version of comfort cooking – where ingredients are seasonal, local whenever possible, and always crafted with the same kind of love and attention that mom would give you as a child.                Continue reading

First Look at Bistro 31

by Steven Doyle       photos by Joy Jangles

Alberto Lombardi seems to collect restaurants like a grandmother collects snow globes and Hummel’s. Bistro 31, the latest addition into the fold of the family of restaurants, quickly found its way to the prized spot on the mantel.

The menu hearkens Mediterranean cuisine deftly produced by former Mansion sous Eric Brandt who said the dishes have a flair of French and Italian.   Continue reading

Get Your Pig On: Cane Rosso Brunch

by Steven Doyle   photos by Joy Jangles

Saturday mornings are typically a time to complete mundane chores around the house. The lawn gets a nod, and a few rounds of laundry are completed. Not terribly exciting, at least until now.  Il Cane Rosso is wanting to make a change in my weekly routine by offering up a new and satisfying brunch — but only on Saturdays.

Stopping in this past weekend to join a few friends at the Deep Ellum pizza Mecca we congregated to devote a few hours to understanding most of the brunch menu at Il Cane Rosso.  There we caught up with owner Jay Jerrier as he was taking on dad duties and heading off what would be a daughter-filled sports day of lacrosse and soccer.   Continue reading

Sunday Brunch: Eden Cafe

By Joy Jangles

A garden of Eden lies within the city, nestled in a cozy, quiet nook on W. Lovers Lane.  Outside hangs a ceramic sign adorned with beautiful flowers with “Eden” written in a bright sunny yellow. Yet with the brutal heat we’ve been having, somehow the flowers still bloomed strong, the grass a plushy green and upon entering you feel as if you’ve just returned home.  And how truly wonderful it felt to be back.             Continue reading
