Peak And Elm Concina And Bar Opening Soon In East Dallas

by Steven Doyle

The Moreno family, who owns several locations of La Popular Tamale House, have decided to open a Mexican restaurant in East Dallas in the growing artsy district at Peak and Elm.  In fact, the new restaurant will be called Peak and Elm Cocina and Bar.

The new restaurant has been under construction with great attention for detail to the existing space. The restaurant sits on what was formerly the street car line, and just across the street once housed the street cars at the end of their run through East Dallas. For this reason Jesse Moreno says he plans on bringing one of the original cars to the back patio area for private dining.      Continue reading

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo 2012 in Dallas

by Steven Doyle

For most it is not a matter if, but where to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The origins of the holiday hardly has roots in copious amounts of margaritas and cheap Mexican beer, but instead considered the turning point in what was until then a losing fight against the powerful invading French forces.  The “Battle of Puebla” gave the Mexican people a renewed sense of hope in defending their beloved country and the eventual victory on May 5, 1862.

I suppose anytime you defeat invading French forces is a fantastic time to take a nip of tequila and should be celebrated in style. We assembled a few ways to pay your respects to Mexico and still possibly get your drink on at the same time.       Continue reading

Brunch at Fernando’s

by Steven Doyle

A second location for Fernando’s, a TexMex restaurant that opened at Northwest Hwy and Midway in 2005, has opened. The new Fernando’s is located up top of Travis Walk Shopping Center on Travis near Knox.

We set out on Christmas Eve with a large group to sample the new restaurant’s brunch and to take advantage of the bottomless mimosa situation that costs a mere buck. They were free until the recent flack with the TABC. Seems TABC doesn’t like brunch. Or free mimosas.     Continue reading

Wachu Tacobot Willis: Fuel City

by Danielle Leahy     photos by Jacque Manaugh

If Dallas street taco lover’s had a Mecca, Fuel City  would be it. Even for all the naysayer’s at trip, at the least, is a requirement to judge the state of taco affairs in our City. Fuel City has long been called Dallas Best Street Tacos and, for the most part, started the gas station taco trend in Dallas as we know it. But what’s beyond the hype? Are the tacos really that good? Well with the all new covered patio  in place that seats 70 the Tacobots decided to invade the parking-lot and find out the truth for themselves.

First, you should know about Fuel City is it is cash only so don’t get in line (and yes there is ALWAYS a line) before you visit the ATM located just a few feet down from the outside window.     Continue reading

First Look: Mr. Mesero

by Steven Doyle

Mico Rodirguez is back and blazing guns at his new restaurant, Mr. Mesero. The quaint former location of the ill-fated Burger Girl located at 4444 McKinney Avenue holds a dozen four-top tables with an additional communal table outside that seats about twelve people.

I stopped by Mesero today for a bite and found the food much different than I had imagined. There were some Tex Mex items, but the menu also had a Mex Mex aspect as well.         Continue reading
