Chef Paul Singhapong Thai Dinner At Malai This Weds

by Steven Doyle

This past April we checked out a fantastic one-up dinner at Malai in the West Village. Thai Me Up was guest cheffed by the legendary Chef Paul Singhapong who you may remember from the Brasserie Savoy Restaurant in San Francisco, Beau Nash at Dallas Crescent Court Hotel, The Mansion on Turtle Creek, The Melrose, Nana at the Anatole and The French Room at the Adolphus.

The chef promised round two of this very exclusive dinner and we have a look at the menu. The dinner is this Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 7pm. The dinner is only $55 per person(beverages included) and promises to be an intimate evening filled with authentic Thai cuisine not found anywhere in this city. This is a 5-course journey through Northern Thailand.  Dinner will be served family-style, with all participants dining together.       Continue reading →

Tre Wilcox Offers A New Brunch

by Steven Doyle

Brunch is the backbone of the Dallas dining society. We have literally done 100’s of brunch stories on craveDFW and featured Chef Tre Wilcox from the Village Marquee Texas Grill last year. The Top Chef continues to update and improve his menus and most recently revamped his brunch offerings by adding spicier selections to reflect this city’s adoration for Texas flare.

The most outrageously wonderful dish you will find on the menu is the hang-over cure, the Hung Pig sandwich. This pile of pork includes Tre’s own sausage, BBQ pulled pork, bacon and a fried egg. The sandwich is juicy and satisfying and fulfills any bacon contract you may have had for the day.          Continue reading →

MAX’s Wine Dive is opening in September and today has announced their staff both front of the house and in the kitchen the line-up is impressive and no doubt the Dallas outpost which will be located in uptown on McKinney across from the West Village.

Luscher Spotted Cooking At Bolsa Mercado

by Steven Doyle

We have been enjoying the dinner for two at Bolsa Mercado, especially on guest chef night which happens to be today. The premise behind the guest chef night is that a different chef will offer a boxed dinner for two each Thursday evening, and the proceeds benefit Café Momentum.

Each chef has been asked to incorporate produce grown in the garden of the Dallas County Youth Village within their menus. This week  Bolsa Mercado is featuring the food stylings of The Grape’s own Brian Luscher.         Continue reading →

Pookie Talks About Great Philly’s And The Power Of A Donut

by Steven Doyle

The wacky donut shop concept is filtering through this country, much like the FroYo movement and the cute cupcake which took our nation to the task of sugary mastication. The latest to hit that scene in the DFW area is Pookies Donuts which is located on Lemmon within ear shot of Love Field.

Owned by mega-cute couple Rinney Keo (aka Pookie) and Joaquin Lewis (aka Joaquin), the pair left their corporate grind to map out their mutual dream in the hospitality business. Pookie is a business information major and Joaquin formerly made his living as a telecom enginee; both  enjoy dining of all sorts.      Continue reading →
