First Look: Asian Delights Cafe

Sambal Belachanby Andrew Chalk

We checked in at Asian Delights Cafe last night, the Malaysian Restaurant that opened in Plano just the day before. Consistent with the orient being mysterious the place was almost impossible to find. Having not, no sign, but somebody else’s above the door! Fortunately, the plastic “Grand Opening” banner steered us in. The marquee recognition and sign arrive next week and then the good news will be plentiful parking just a few doors down from Kroger.  Continue reading

“Malt” to Open In Old Truluck’s Addison Location

Trulucks1by Steven Doyle

Way back in October we broke the news that Truluck’s was shuttering in Addison after a long and successful run in that space. The reason was not due to lack of business, the successful micro-chain is growing. It was more about an expensive lease renewal.

Today we learn that the new tenants that have been remodeling the very large space will name the casual concept “Malt”. We have little information on what the restaurant will offer at this time, but we heard that it will not be extremely heavy on alcohol. With a name like malt we were hoping to see a scotch bar go in, or the very least a high end brew pub which that section of Dallas is sorely lacking.    Continue reading

Malaysian Cuisine Returns To Dallas

05_2011_01_Blue_Ginger-71-Editby Andrew Chalk

Fans of Malaysian food will remember Blue Ginger Garden in Plano, which closed in January of last year. The couple behind that one-of-a-kind place are coming back and opening Asian Delights Café a short distance from the site of the old Blue Ginger Garden. The menu looks like it will be similar but they are making more of an attempt to explain Malaysian food in the context of other Southeast Asian cuisines.

A soft opening is planned on May 1st but when I checked the web site was not yet up so there may be last minute delays.

Mot Hai Ba Brings Northern Vietnamese Cuisine To Lakewood

Mot Hai Ba.jpgby Steven Lindsey

One, Two, Three, Pho. If it’s dark outside, you won’t be eating Pho. At least not when Mot Hai Ba (pronounced mo’oht high bah and translates to “one, two, three”) opens today.

That’s because the flavorful soup is never served at dinner in Vietnam. And it’s that kind of authenticity that Jeana Johnson & Colleen O’Hare (Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House, Good 2 Go Taco) plan to infuse into everything at their newest venture.

Well, except maybe the French wines and Belgian beers. That’s more a tradition-in-the-making.    Continue reading

Mutts To Open In Dallas Late May 2013

dogby Steven Doyle

The public relations rep sent word on this new concept hitting Dallas. We mentioned it some time back, but this gives us more details. She reminded us this is not an April Fool’s joke.

Free Range Concepts partners, Josh Sepkowitz and Kyle Noonan announce their newest project, Mutts. Scheduled to open late this coming May, Sepkowitz and Noonan (Bowl & Barrel, Sunset Lounge, The Rustic) are bringing a modern day “roadside” burger stand to Uptown that will serve burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, shakes, beer, wine and more during lunch and dinner hours. Coffee, breakfast tacos, bagels and pastries will be served for breakfast.      Continue reading
