Local Restaurants Gear Up For Toys For Tots Campaign

North Texas-based Razzoo’s and Tricky Fish will be partnering with the U.S. Marine Corps and their Toys for Tots program by collecting new toys this holiday season.  The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.  Beginning on Monday, November 19, guests at all 21 Razzoo’s Cajun Café locations and at both Tricky Fish will be accepting new toys and gifts for Toys to Tots. Celebration’s Ed Lowe Dead at 69

News of the owner of Celebration, the age old and original farm-to-table restaurant in Dallas, passed away this week. Ed Lowe opened Celebration in 1971 when Lowe was 22 years old and has been expanding since, even opening a satellite shop in the outer reaches of his parking lot to sell jams, breads and fresh vegetables that he used at the restaurant. The Playwright Pub Opens Nov 14th

The Playwright, Dallas’ newest Irish pub opening Wednesday, November 14 for lunch, dinner and late-night every night, offers a tried and true experience at One Arts Plaza in the heart of Dallas’ Arts District.

Brought to us by the same owners as The Crafty Irishman, the new pub offers hundreds of whiskeys and scotches and 50 beers on tap, including a healthy Irish selection. Chef Patrick Stark Unveils New Concept

Sgt Spuds is chef Patrick Stark’s new venture where he has created a potato “hand grenade” that is hollowed and stuffed with a variety of BBQ meats and a host of sauces. Currently the Spuds will be available at events throughout Dallas and Fort Worth with a concentration on breweries as both a catered meal or as part of a beer pairing.

Sgt Spuds benefits Patrick Stark’s 501(c)3 Charity Mohawk Militia which has been instrumental in assisting veterans with food and other necessities, and soon will donate 2,000 men’s suits by distributing them to local charitable organizations that would fit the clothing to those in need. FOODHALL at Crockett Row is proud to announce several new vendors as it prepares for its grand opening on Dec. 7 & 8. The first of its kind in Fort Worth, FOODHALL at Crockett Row will offer cuisines from many local chefs and purveyors including Knife Burger from chef John Tesar, Butler’s Cabinet from chef Joshua Harmon, Abe Froman’s of Fort Worth from chef Victor Villarreal, Not Just Q, Rollin’ n Bowlin’, Press Waffle Co., EB2, The Dock, Shawarma Bar, Aina Poke Co. and Gigi’s Cupcakes.

Joshua Harmon will open Butler’s Cabinet, a deli and marketplace inspired by a love of discovering treats in his mother’s pantry as a child. The menu will include sandwiches such as the Deviled Belly Melt with housemade American cheese and maple-miso smoked onions, as well as the County Ham with sour cherry, fresh cheese, housemade koji butter and greens. Harmon will source produce locally and make many ingredients in house, including smoked and cured meats, cheeses and pickles. Handcrafted beverages will include The Fig Lebowski, a cold brew with fig-espresso syrup and the Black Fog London made with Earl Grey tea, vanilla syrup and charcoal milk. Continue reading

Farewell Celebration at Continental Gin Building

The Continental Gin Building has existed for 130 years and has housed artist studios for over three decades. This November marks the final Open Studios at this registered Dallas Landmark for these celebrated artists.  The Fall Open Studios will feature more than 40 artists on Friday, November 9th from 6PM-10PM and Saturday, November 10th from 2PM-8PM at 3309 Elm Street Dallas, TX 75226.  The public is invited.

The Continental Gin Building has been home to some of Dallas’ most notable artists for the last 32 years.  Twice a year, the artists host the Open Studios event, which is one of the most well attended in the region. This final Open Studio will be a true celebration of the artists’ work and contribution to the Dallas community.  Continue reading
