Agu Ramen For Fresh Noodle Experience

chef-hisashi-kitchen_750xx5760-3240-0-300.jpgby Steven Doyle

Agu Ramen is serving up the most authentic ramen you might be able to find in the Dallas area, making their own noodles and boiling pork bones for 24-hours as part of their tonkotsu, but also has a vegetarian and five vegan options. We might add that Agu is extremely vegan friendly and after speaking with the owner who is originally from Okinawa now residing in Hawaii, Hisashi “Teddy” Uehara, he plans to open a vegan restaurant in Dallas after visiting most of the vegan hot-spots in the area recently. “Elwood” Continues at the Ochre House Theater Through November 17

The cast of Elwood are regulars seen at the Ochre House Theater located in the Exposition near Fair Park, an area studded with interesting bars and restaurants which seems to be enjoying a surge of interest with those weary of the more bustling lifestyle of Deep Ellum, its closest neighbor. The dining room is the first to make an impact on a guest the first time they visit Hattie’s located in Bishop Arts. Hattie’s is the anchor that consistently draws guests in both day and night for fantastic low-country cuisine, dishes that not only are found in Louisiana but circumnavigate the map eastward and up through the Carolinas. These are rich hearty dishes that are familiar but lend themselves to an upscale atmosphere.  Continue reading

Imoto and Community Pair Ever So Well at Beer Dinner

image7 (1)by Steven Doyle

Last evening at the fairly new Imoto located in Victory Park the team from Community Beer Company descended with an armload of some of their very best concoctions to pair up with chef Jennifer Newbold and chef Stephen McHugh and tag-teamed one seriously marvelous beer dinner. Dining with Community owner Kevin Carr, wife Andi and crew which included Ashley Kelly who landmarks sales in the DFW area. Both Kelly and Carr led the evening with interesting stories surrounding their beer (did you know the moscaid hop used in their IPA  is the HBC369 and the brewery must procure the sought after hop two years in advance?). The evening was as tasty as it was of great interest to the company assembled.  Continue reading

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is not a Mexican version of Halloween. Though related, the two annual events differ greatly in traditions and tone. Whereas Halloween is a dark night of terror and mischief, Day of the Dead festivities unfold over two days in an explosion of color and life-affirming joy. Sure, the theme is death, but the point is to demonstrate love and respect for deceased family members. In towns and cities throughout Mexico, revelers don funky makeup and costumes, hold parades and parties, sing and dance, and make offerings to lost loved ones. Continue reading
