chefby Steven Doyle

In Dallas it is typically the chef group that takes the lead on local charity activities. These talented men and women are often the front line of action when called upon to help raise funds for any number of worthy causes. That said, I want to tell you about Phoenix, a six-year-old boy from Athens, Texas, who is recovering from horrific injuries to his foot incurred when he fell from a lawn mower he was riding with his grandfather.  Continue reading

Eat Me: Mole Enchiladas at Mr Mesero

mr4by Steven Doyle

Mr Mesero located at 4444 McKinney Avenue has this sparkling fresh menu that is incredibly good, and different than your average enchilada. The space is replete with  a dozen four-top tables and has an additional communal table outside that seats about twelve people. It is tiny, but effective. Parking is ample with an all day valet service for those so inclined.

Interesting enough, Mesero sports a full bar, with swirl margaritas that are quite potent. The small restaurant becomes a lounge after 10pm, staying open late for cocktails and mingling.   Continue reading

Get Your Southern Fixe in Fort Worth

fixe.jpgby Trey Moran

Chef James Robert and Co-Owner Keith House have brought their popular Austin based Fixe Southern House to The Shops at Clearfork in Fort Worth.  Chef Robert has taken on the task of reimagining southern favorites and staples. The menu is based on his family recipes and his experiences growing up in Louisiana. There are touches of old southern charm mixed in with a modern look and feel throughout the restaurant.

In the middle of the main room is a wide beam, pergola type structure draped with strings of lights giving it a back yard type feel. You can watch the magic happen in the large open kitchen from just about any seat in the house.  On the night we visited the background music was a nice selection of classic southern rock that fit nicely with the mood.  The place has a modern but homey feel. It’s a very comfortable atmosphere. But then there is the food. Continue reading

The Biscuit Bar celebrated its grand opening in Plano yesterday. It is the newest restaurant to join The Boardwalk in Granite Park.

Before entering The Biscuit Bar, customers can see an arrangement of silver, black and yellow tables and chairs, corresponding to the aesthetic of the inside of the restaurant. From the outside, customers can look through a window, in which they will see workers rolling and kneading dough, and baking hot, fresh biscuits.
