Mutts Canine Cantina – A Dogs Eye View

mutts1

ed note: We had planned to send Andrew Chalk to cover Mutts, the new eatery with an attached dog-park in Uptown. Unfortunately, he had an OD on ”Science Diet”. However, his dog was able to attend without him and sends this report]

I can’t believe it I don’t have a leash on and the grass stretches as far as the eye can see, yippee! I don’t know whether to run or pee think I’ll pee but that Pomeranian keeps trying to sniff my butt they should put that breed in the big dogs park it looks like I’m not the only dog in the world that’s a bigger shock to me than when they told Paris Hilton that she wasn’t the only person in the world so I get a drink of water and follow a trail but I have to bark at a monster with McKinney Avenue Trolley Company written on the side that makes a rumbling noise there looks like there’s action in the big dogs park but I want food so I am going to bark until the human lets me out and lets me have some human food in the patio area.

One remarkable recovery later…  Continue reading

Crawfish Season Not Finished At TJ’s Seafood Market

crawfish2by Steven Doyle

Just when we thought crawfish season was kaput, we get a sweet love note from Jon Alexis at TJ’s Seafood Market reminding us that he has the last of the big crustaceans and he is taking orders for this weekend’s boils in North Texas.

Alexis is notorious for having the largest, the cleanest and the freshest crawfish in the city, and at a special $2.45 a pound these babies won’t last long. You must buy them buy the sack which on average weighs a cool 30 pounds, and you must pre-order by 3pm this Friday to guarantee your mud bugs.    Continue reading

You’ve Gotta Try Some WOATS

DSC08300by Steven Doyle

Justin Anderson was but a lad of 16 when he decided to take over his mother’s kitchen and create a soft granola snack. Justin was wearing braces on his teeth at the time and the young scout had a flair for making things happen even at an early age. After borrowing $500 from his grandmother his brand of trail mix was born.

Flash forward to more modern times and Justin is still rather young (a mere 26), but recently started selling a new soft oats mix called WOATS in Central Market who has an exclusive on the product for now. Soon the WOATS will enjoy a wide distribution.   Continue reading

Just in time for your holiday cookout Shiner Smokehouse, the family owned sausagery, announces its line of homemade, family recipe products will be available at all major area Kroger stores beginning June 26. Just in time for grilling season, Shiner Smokehouse favorites including the Original Smoked Sausage, Beer Brat, made with Shiner Bock beer, and Country Style Smokies will be hitting shelves.

The Shiner Smokehouse brand began as the Patek’s Family Grocery and Meat Market, where the house-made meats were a favorite, drawing locals and out-of-town customers alike. Working in his family’s store since he was in fourth grade, it has been Brian’s lifelong dream to share his family’s house made recipes beyond the small-town Shiner store. Continue reading

Venice-114105-(1)

I hear you’re lookin’ for love, well, look no further.  Meet Venice, a gorgeous 1-year-old, 44 pound Pit Bull mix who is sure to make your heart melt.  She has a smooth red velvet coat, warm caramel eyes, and a delightful butterscotch nose.  When she’s not stopping hearts with her stunning looks, she’s having a blast running about the dog park, bouncing after squeaky toys, and playing tug-o-war or fetch. She is heartworm positive, but her treatments are FREE to her new family at a Metroplex-area VCA Animal Hospital after she’s adopted.             Continue reading

The Ranch at Las Colinas And Franciscan Estate Team Up for Release of New Wine Vintage

ranchby Andrew Chalk

Franciscan Estate is a winery with a long history in the heart of California’s Napa Valley. The last few years has seen something of a frenzy of innovation as owner Constellation Brands seeks to reposition it as a more upmarket product. I think that, given the possibilities and the cost realities of the Napa Valley, this is a wise idea. Last week, Franciscan introduced the new vintage of their wines at a public dinner at The Ranch At Las Colinas and they are impressive. I was fortunate to be an invited media guest at the event.  Continue reading
