El Refrán Mexican Buffet in Farmers Branch

Located in Farmers Branch, El Refrán Mexican Buffet offers more than just a meal—it serves a full-on celebration of Mexico’s rich and varied food traditions. From the moment you walk through the door, the warm hum of conversation and the aroma of slow-simmered meats and roasted chiles welcome you like an old friend. The space itself is bright and casual, with tiled floors, rustic décor, and just enough color to echo the spirit of a family kitchen in Guadalajara or Puebla. But the real showstopper here is the buffet—a sprawling, no-frills spread that’s both generous and genuinely rooted in tradition.

We Check Out Restaurants That You Won’t Part II

girl-eating-ribsby Steven Doyle

A few weeks back I proposed I should go forth into the city and take on a few restaurants that one reading craveDFW on a regular basis not deem as craveable. I solicited a list of what soon became a dare with those commenting on Facebook. I am sometimes referred to as food snobbish, and nothing could be further than the truth. As long time readers are aware we will write about things we love, and leave the rest of the chaff for those that prefer writing more hateful tomes.

Negative is so much more fun and easier to write. A critical expression is also more entertaining to write, I can guarantee. However, we wish to give our gentle readers something they might actually be able to use on a date night with their loved ones as opposed to a half hour of dredge that is totally unusable. Take all this how you will.   Continue reading

Best Buffet Selections in Dallas

buffet.jpgby Steven Doyle

We have been asked to write a list of the best buffets in Dallas and initially that seems like a dreadful task, but once we pulled off the ugly layers of the buffet onion we were shocked at how many lovely experiences could be found. The very best way to run a buffet situation is to keep it fresh, clean and with an unusual variety to keep guest’s interest. In the case of the Indian food buffet, it makes for an excellent canvass to bring newcomers to the cuisine with the ability to instantly sample a variety of dishes and spark an interest that may not have formerly been there.

We think we found a few you will enjoy. We hope you share your favorites in the comment section! Continue reading
