After four successful years, the Ultimate Cocktail Experience benefiting Trigger’s Toys is back. And once more, the charitable pop-up event is bringing together bartenders, brands, distributors and consumers to benefit a worthwhile cause. Started by Bryan Townsend, and now in its fifth year, Trigger’s Toys is the hottest ticket in town.

Decks in the Park Round Two

Season 2 Decks in the Park – Episode 1: April 24th 2014, The Night I Forgave Former Dallas Mayor Laura Miller.

In 2004 former Mayor Laura Miller played hardball with Jerry Jones over the future Cowboys stadium and lost.  One of the projects the city had planned to save funds for were the revitalization of Downtown, investment in Uptown, and what is now our Arts district including Klyde Warren Park.  While there was a way to have both in Dallas, nearly 10 years later on April 24th 2014, I finally forgive Laura Miller.

What I would describe as a glorious evening began with me parking about a 5 minute walk away.  I had an easy time with parking, parked near the Federal Reserve Bank.  It was around 8pm, so the sun was setting, the temperature was perfect, and as soon as I got close enough to see the size and scope of the event I was about to be a part of, I just started smiling.  I will forever have the scenic snapshot in my mind.  I felt a sense of pride for our city.  To outsiders, we were no longer hillbillies riding our horses to work with oil derricks and tumble weeds in the horizon. What I saw truly reflected we are a hip modern city in the center of a 6 million person media market.   Continue reading

Restaurant News Of The Week

yaserby Steven Doyle

There is plenty of activity gong on at local restaurants and we have the scoop for you today. Be looking for a handful of restaurants to open up in the coming weeks, as well as some changes. We have a few items for you to savor.

Oishii opens tonight at 5pm. We get more calls abou this restaurant than any other in Dallas. The local’s favorite suffered damage due to a fire last December. It took nearly a year, but fans can enjoy their menu favorites tonight, finally.

Souk opens in Trinity Groves tonight at 5pm. Souk is a Moroccan bistro and bazaar owned by restaurateur Yaser Khalaf and cheffed by Najat Kaanache, who Yaser told us some time back would eventually be his corporate chef. Yaser owns Baboush, Farnatchi and Ketchup. Baboush is one of our very favorite Dallas restaurants, so we look for big things to come out of Souk. In addition to the new restaurant, you can also find some interesting retail items for sale at this Bazaar.    Continue reading

A Visit To Savor At Klyde Warren Park

DSC00373by Steven Doyle

Savor, located in Klyde Warren Park, opened its doors just a few weeks ago and already has positioned itself as a busy and beautiful restaurant with affordable and equally beautiful food. Last night during a media outing the crowds shuffled in starting with a large party outside for wine and light bites. Later that evening crowds of travelers and locals alike made their way in for more wine and full plates. Savor is compelling and full of energy.

Owned and cheffed by John Coleman, who spent much of his career opening Ritz Carlton hotels, has a finite attention to the details. This is a good thing since the eyes of the city are focused on the success of Savor. The chef assures us that he understands the huge responsibility it is to run such a high profile restaurant. There are actually a duo of restaurants that includes Relish, the burger and beer walk-up next door.    Continue reading
