Firecrust Neapolitan Pizzeria has signed leases for two locations in North Dallas. Firecrust has leased a 3,000 square-foot space in Dallas at Knox Promenade shopping center and a 2,935-square-foot space at Prestonwood Park in Plano, Texas. Knox Promenade shopping center is located in the northwest quadrant of Knox Street and Central Expressway. Prestonwood Park is located on the northeast corner of Midway Road and W. Park Boulevard. Since leaving their radio program at the first of the year both Gene and Julie Gates have been undertaking the task of a lifetime: opening their very own restaurant. They have taken the ultimate risk and laid out their personal savings and time away from their money-maker which is their radio talent. They may have said good-bye to their millions of radio listeners, at least for the moment, but many of those same fans have made their way to the Gate’s restaurant, Battuto to sample some very fine Italian cuisine. I finally stumbled into Pizzeria Testa in Frisco on a recent Sunday night to see what all the fuss is about. Being a skeptical New Yorker (and pizza expert, due to the thousands of slices consumed as a child) I was anxious to see what Michele D’ Amelio has created out of the two 7,000 pound Stefano Ferrara pizza ovens imported from Italy.
It’s Sunday Night in Frisco (ghost town) and this place is packed. We actually had to wait for a table. Once seated our server Allison was on the money. A true foodie and her passion for the product came through immediately. Continue reading

Maybe. The June issue of O Magazine, Oprah’s eponymous monthly, features six pizzas with recipes from pizzerias all across the country. Among them, Cavalli in Irving (although they are also in McKinney). Their Jalapeño, Garlic and Oregano gets a mention on p.150.
Cavalli is an authentic Neapolitan pizza restaurant and the first certified VPN restaurant in North Texas. Congratulations to the Cavalli family on the well-deserved recognition. Continue reading
