Craft beer aficionados can purchase tickets for the Dallas Winter Warmer presented by Sigel’s Beer, Wine & Liquors. The event will be held at the AT&T Performing Art Center’s Annette Strauss Square Saturday, Dec. 15 from noon to 5 p.m.
Featured tasting opportunities include stouts, porters, barley wines, barrel-aged beers and winter seasonals from approximately 30 American craft breweries, as well as hard ciders. In addition, the food pavilion will offer a variety of Wolfgang Puck cuisine for purchase.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Cancer Support Community North Texas, a non-profit center offering educational presentations, support groups and networking groups, workshops, social events, children’s programs and bereavement support in Dallas County and Collin County. Trends are difficult to predict, at best. Soon we will publish a list of food trends that we might expect to see in Dallas for 2013, but today we honor several we enjoyed in 2012. It seems odd at times that many chefs and restaurateurs grab onto the same ideas, but many of the trends we see in Dallas were perhaps hot numbers on either coast several years ago. I suppose we like to play it safe on the third coast.
Oysters! This year we stared down the happy end of many shells in the Dallas area. Recently Jon Alexis opened his second seafood market, the TJ’s located on Oak Lawn, and has since brought on a growing crowd Sunday’s where he offers dollar oysters. These aren’t week old bivalves; Alexis ships in oysters daily along with all of his seafood selections. Instead he likes the idea of throwing a Sunday night industry party that celebrates with half priced fish tacos and a growing selection of really awesome oysters for a buck each. Continue reading

Fort Worth is about to get a little bit cheesier if Elizabeth Northern has anything to do with the matter. Northern is days away from opening Magnolia Cheese Company which will serve as a café and artisan cheese shop which will be located at 1251 W. Magnolia in Fort Worth.
The cut-to-order artisan cheese shop will focus on local and American Artisan selections along with a menu of sandwiches, salads, small plates and desserts that will change seasonally. Northern who has worked in the local media says that she stumbled into the cheese business about five years ago. Continue reading

With less than 600 cases produced to date, here is a Russian River Pinot Noir that makes you rethink the region. Bright cranberry, strawberry, and jasmine nuances, kissed with a touch of spicebox and a blessing of 2nd year barrel, make this an “old world” wine lovers dream. This team which includes an eponymous Sonoma Somm, has knocked all three vintages out of the park. Look for this wine in select fine dining venues.
