Elbow Room To Re-Open Mid January

DSC01868by Steven Doyle

Back in September I reported that the Elbow Room had shuttered. Today I am told that the Elbow Room will re-open with new owners and most likely look and feel exactly the same. Many of the same bartenders and waitresses will join the team. In the past weeks I have run into a few of the alumni working at various bars across Dallas and they loved and miss the venue.   Continue reading

by Steven Doyle

Last night we checked out the latest bar owned by Brad Hensarling, Gold Standard which just opened two days ago. Hensarling is most famous for his killer good bar, The Usual. You may also know Brad from his stint at Campo in Oak Cliff where he created the first cocktail list to pair up with Matt McCallister’s opening dishes. Hensarling also owns the Chat Room which is located within walking distance from The Usual on West Magnolia.            Continue reading

Check Out the Latest Pop-Up Bar Hid In 2612

by Steven Doyle

This past weekend we checked out the new pop-up Hid In 2612 cocktail lounge in Deep Ellum hosted by Michael Martensen of Cedars Social and Brian McCullough of the soon-to-open Standard Pour in the new space that Cane Rosso’s Jay Jerrier happily donated. The proceeds will benefit the Deep Ellum Community Association.

The décor of the tiny space is fun and spirited with much of the furnishings coming from Again & Again diva Leslie Pritchard and the design gurus at KingZuluBong.     Continue reading

Ten Bells Tavern Opening in Bishop Arts

by Steven Doyle

We just received word that another bar will be opening soon at 7th and Madison in the Bishop Arts District in North Oak Cliff and will be called Ten Bells Tavern.

“The name comes from a pub in London I enjoy with the same namesake. We had a lot of ideas about names and concepts, but once I saw the building, it just made sense. The place is a only shell now so all of this is a labor of love,” said Meri Dahlke from via email.   Continue reading

Meet Chef DAT of the Soon to Open Mason Bar

by Steven Doyle

In collaboration with Brandt Wood and chef David Anthony Temple will be opening the kitchen at the Mason Bar in just a few short weeks. You may remember Temple, often referred to as Chef DAT. He is the 28-year old chef who has been honing his skills by running a successful series of underground dinners in the Dallas area. Now the DAT has gone legit.

The Mason Bar rests comfortably in its digs at 2701 Gulliot in Dallas in the State Thomas section of Dallas that just borders Uptown. There we find the interesting building which was originally a church in the 1930’s and eventually a Freemason Lodge in 1951. For seven years it was the home for artist James Sasso and the artist has promised to send out some artwork to represent that period.    Continue reading
