Sometimes when you are out dining you simply want a snack. Small plates is actually my favorite way to dine, you get so many different flavors packed into one meal. If variety is the spice of life then Snack Global Kitchen and Bar is a whole lot of living.
As we had mentioned in our first look at Snack, it is a global kitchen, which basically means the kitchen staff can create anything they wish and be as imaginative as possible. This is genius.
We stopped into Snack late Sunday evening just before closing and the staff was winding down from a busy day. Sous chef Cody Sharp was at the helm and we are always pleased to see this firecracker of a chef. After graduating from Cordon Bleu Sharp took his first line position at Rockwall’s Restaurant Ava and simultaneously started working part time for Katherine Clapner at Dude, Sweet Chocolate in Bishop Arts. I stopped by Restaurant Ava this past weekend for their whole hog dinner that was cooked with the help of a few chef friends from the Dallas area. The hog was purchased some time ago from a local 4H project and the dinner has been in the works for some time now. The chefs included Ava’s own Taylor Kearney, Nathan Tate and Randall Copeland, but also Scott Romano, Chad Bowden from Culpepper, and Matt McCallister and Brady Williams from the upcoming FT33. Entertainment was provided by local musician Brent Engel. Continue reading

We were given a first look at the new Oak Cliff restaurant Driftwood just next door to Bolsa Mercado at 642 West Davis, in what was previous a dark Con Fusion, now owned by Jonn Baudoin. Baudoin graduated with an Industrial Design degree from the University of South Louisiana in Lafayette and has worked at many top restaurants in Dallas as General Manger including Dallas Fish Market, Nicola, Nikita, Salve and Mi Piaci.
The general theme of the menu is seafood and the restaurant’s overall feel, which was designed by Daniela Baudoin’s company Vision 360 Design, is brightened by sea-foam and cool woods, and sports a beautiful patio. Continue reading
