It’s funny, when we think of the nation’s coasts, the ones with the worst weather tend to be the seafood stars. There is no surfing to distract us from Boston’s lobsters. Pike’s Place Market is cool, but would it be a tourism hub if Seattle had sunbathing beaches? If in LA, San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf would be the location of multimillion dollar movie star mansions. Continue reading

A Visit to Nosh for Hot Chalkboard Dining
Avner Samuel has figured out the formula that makes people line up in Dallas. First, he hired a top level chef in Jon Stevens and made him a partner at Nosh Euro Bistro. Next Samuel sought out fantastic wines at a admirable price point. Then he took all the elements, coupled with his brilliant and demure location and created a list of dishes that are simple, palatable, and at a perfect price point that allows the neighborhood to make repeat visits with fervor.
It also doesn’t hurt that Nosh is open all day for those that prefer lingering lunches. It is not uncommon for a successful business lunch turn into an all day wine challenge, or to see lunching ladies of leisure enjoying a late afternoon Nosh. Continue reading

One Art in Commissary Opens Tonight
Today marks the opening of The Commissary’s restaurant-within-a-restaurant One Art. We were fortunate to be part of the few to preview some of the offerings that the new restaurant will offer and will share the photos below.
It is interesting to note that unlike the One Art predecessor, The Table, there will be a few changes. One notable change is price. Chef-owner John Tesar noted last evening that the all night multi-course room wasn’t as successful due to the economy, and scaled the menu back by lowering price points, offering an ala carte menu, and sticking to more basic ingredients rather than the foie and caviar heavy approach he had before. More Pork Belly For You To Enjoy
Sometimes weeks go by without having something truly amazing that screams dog’s bollocks on the palate. We trifle through plates of uninspired hummus and casual cheeseburgers. Sometimes there are tirades of sad pizza, or the many enchiladas that claim to be the most original but fall short in a puddled grease bomb.
These are the dishes we are not sharing with you. Our philosophy at craveDFW is fairly simple. We must crave the dish before we can write about the dish. This is why you typically will not see negative criticisms on these pages. Continue reading

Wach Tacobot Willis? Chichen Itza
by Danielle Leahy photos by Jacque Manaugh
La Hacienda Chichen Itza has long been a Greenville Ave staple although it’s often over shadowed by it’s more award winning neighbor, Tacos Y Mas. For the residents of Greenville Ave, this is a tragedy. Not only does Chichen Itza offers a much better quality taco, but with it’s origins as a family run bakery and restaurant Chichen Itza offers a larger selection of traditional Mexican delights on top of the basic street tacos.
With a separate bakery taking up almost equal space in the building, this eatery makes traditional Mexican pastries and desserts on a daily basis. Even at 8pm they still had a nice selection of pan de dulces and various flavored cookies. The cooler behind the pastry case was full of Mexican sodas, juices, and mineral waters with more than one Bot appreciatively signing over the effervescence of their Topo Chico. Continue reading

Scardello Dinner Hints at Campo Menu
Last night Rich Rogers, cheesemonger and owner of Scardello, rolled out the red carpet and polished the house silver as he hosted his first guest-chef dinner at the cheese boutique. Rogers says that he will be doing these special dinners every few months and spotlight a popular area chef to pair cheeses with their particular style of cooking.
Last night’s dinner sold out in mere minutes after Rogers sent out the information to his customers via the store’s email list. Scardello hosts many events through out the year, including chocolate and cheese pairings, cheese classes and other food-tainment themed evenings at the Oak Lawn shop. Continue reading
