An inspiring story comes from Lochgilphead, Scotland, home to 9-year old school cafeteria critic and international blogger, Martha Payne. Martha’s story is an inspiring one. She started writing her blog as an exercise and she enjoyed chatting about her lunches. But what happened in the short 6 weeks the blog, which is called NeverSeconds, is shocking.

Kibble & Cocktails: Eating And Drinking To Help Rescue Dogs
Dallas is a city that loves to give back. And with that generosity of spirit comes an abundance of fundraising events, from elaborate black-tie galas to simple tastings in the back rooms of art galleries.
Next Tuesday, there’s a fantastic fundraiser that falls somewhere in between: Kibble & Cocktails. The brainchild of Lisa Jones at Barking Hound Village, a luxury day care and overnight hotel for the canine set, Kibble & Cocktails is a food-and-cocktail event to raise awareness and funds for DFW Rescue Me, a true no-kill, last-chance rescue organization. To date, they have helped find permanent homes for 487 loveable pooches. Continue reading

A Special Benefit at Zen Bistro and Dessert Bar
Last March I had the pleasure to meet two very fine women who started a bakery in Deep Ellum. I first met their father outside their yet-to-open shop as I was racing across town on foot and noticed the man painting the walls out front of what would become Zen Bistro & Dessert Bar. He invited me in for a chat and quickly scribbled down their names and cell phone numbers. He was excited for me to chat with his daughters.
Just days later I met both Chonnie Richey and Czarina Hounsel, two women devoted to their families, to their business and to each other. They are also so very involved in their community, devoting their time and profits to helping others.
Ironically, one of the charities they have supported through out the time they have been in operation is Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Continue reading
