AWOL for AWOLNATION

by Brittany Finnell

For those who have a gaping hole in their album collection from burning all of their Kings of Leon records after the bands disappointing Dallas show, look no further for the next up and coming phenomenon to hit this great nation. AWOLNATION packed Dallas’ own Prophet Bar on Thursday to fans ranging from the hipster teen to middle aged lawyers. LA’s finest hit the stage with hard hitting sounds from their debut album ‘Megalithic Symphony’. For a band that dropped their first album only 5 months ago, they had the entire crowd singing as though these songs had been playing on the radio for years.  Continue reading

Meet Free Man Owner

by Steven Doyle

We paid a visit to John Jay Myers, owner of The Free Man  in Deep Ellum, to check out the menu and feel for the new restaurant that is having their grand opening tonight.

As we approached the Cajun restaurant that is located at 2626 Commerce we were met by Myers himself who was greeting people as they passed by. Inside the place was packed, possibly due to the fact he was giving away free beer since the liquor license wasn’t fully in place. We understand licensing came just in time for today and Free Man should be lively.   Continue reading

Hey folks sorry for being away for a bit I have been busy with various DJ gigs and side projects. Now how about some new music?

Yuksek – Living On The Edge Of Time

Hailing from France, Yuksek is the brainchild of Pierre-Alexandre Busson a man who has been a producer, DJ and pianist in his musical career. This is Yuksek’s second release with this one blending a slightly electro pop feel with some alternative rock, think of Foster The People mixed with Neon Trees.   Continue reading

Harp On At Kessler

by Crave Staff

West Texas is best known for oil and cowboys, not harps. Imagine if West Texas was like 12th Century England, where a minstrel would travel the countryside playing the harp for local kings. Well, in the most unlikely places in the world; Odessa, Texas, the story of the harp continues with some of the best up and coming harpist or “minstrelsʼ around. The Odessa High School Harp Ensemble is one of the biggest public school harp programs in the nation.   Continue reading

True Widow’s Nikki E Still Rocks Me

by StealingKitty

Give me that dirty southern rock n roll only this time, make it edgy and sexy and clean. This is how I found True Widow  and their bassist Nikki Estill. The trio, which has called their sound “Stonegaze”, lives up to the epic title of their most recently released album, “As High As the Highest Heavens and From the Center to the Circumference of the Earth”. This album features Nikki’s sultry voice on several of the songs along with singing in harmony with the bands lead Dan Phillips.

In between gigs, rehearsals, and Nikki’s day job of making up glamour dolls as a make up artist, I caught up with Nikki to find out more about this amazing bassist with this haunting voice you will never forget.  Continue reading
