Hypnotic Donuts Inviting Guest Chefs For Month of July

by Steven Doyle

We love Hypnotic Donuts in East Dallas. They are so fresh, original and fun. In the month of July they play to get even more playful by inviting different chefs into the bakery to play. The first chef will be underground wizard David Anthony Temple. It will be interesting to see what the wunderkind comes up with at hypnotic. Guest chefs will start in July.

A Preview For The Sēr-Curious

by Steven Doyle

Last evening I was an invited guest of the Hilton Anatole to sample a few of the dishes that might be making the Sēr Steak+Spirits menu when the restaurant opens for business this October. On hand was Anatole’s executive chef Thomas Welther and Sēr executive chef Anthony Van Camp who served dinner to a group of local writers and Hilton brass.

Due to construction on the 27th floor where Sēr is located the staff created a makeshift kitchen and dining room in the hotel’s rotunda, including a searing 800 degree grill just outside in view of the guests. Welther noted that he started working for the Anatole 2 years before Van Camp was born thus he was able to stay inside and engage the guests while the young executive chef labored in the heat and prepared dinner on the grill.         Continue reading

June Roundup: Cultivating the Special

by Dr. Spin

In an interview conducted during the Snakes and Arrows tour, Rush drummer Neil Peart quite casually threw out the observation that the idea of personal change is a misnomer. Instead, he said, people grow, and either accept or deny the events and perceptions of their past. Whether I like it or not, the seed of who I am today was already present in the person I was yesterday. I can gratefully say with all confidence that I have grown positively in the years that have passed since the move from Austin to Denton. Life is better than it has ever been. Live better over at the Pharmacy…
