Bailey’s Update: Gundy Gone

by Steven Doyle

In the continuing saga over at Bailey’s Prime Plus, we are sent word that Gary Van Gundy has resigned from the company which also oversees Bailey’s, Patrizio’s, Chesterfield and Uptown Bar and Grill. This might prove good news for those that have been following the restructuring within the company. The move allows Ken Kuczwaj to take a greater role within the company and continue his work to build the brands.

We were also tipped off to several other changes in the organization a week ago and they are all positive in keeping with the promise that Kuczwaj made to make the company stronger and more profitable.            Continue reading

Brass Knuckle Corn Dog Beat Down At Libertine

by Steven Doyle

There were many celebrations in the past few days as we observed Independence Day around the DFW area. One of our favorite traditions for the past few years has been the corn dog ballyhoo at the Libertine Bar on lowest Greenville Avenue in Dallas. The celebration has since been renamed the Brass Knuckle Corn Dog Beat Down and offers a trophy and $100 for anyone that can stuff the most corn dogs down their gullet in a short 15 minute time frame.              Continue reading

Small Plates At Snack

by Steven Doyle

Sometimes when you are out dining you simply want a snack. Small plates is actually my favorite way to dine, you get so many different flavors packed into one meal. If variety is the spice of life then Snack Global Kitchen and Bar is a whole lot of living.

As we had mentioned in our first look at Snack, it is a global kitchen, which basically means the kitchen staff can create anything they wish and be as imaginative as possible. This is genius.

We stopped into Snack late Sunday evening just before closing and the staff was winding down from a busy day. Sous chef Cody Sharp was at the helm and we are always pleased to see this firecracker of a chef. After graduating from Cordon Bleu Sharp took his first line position at Rockwall’s Restaurant Ava and simultaneously started working part time for Katherine Clapner at Dude, Sweet Chocolate in Bishop Arts.       Continue reading

The Day Begins: “At War With the Mystics” for Breakfast

by Dr. Spin

Two summers ago, I took a Japanese language course, which was horizon-expanding. Last summer, CrossFit was a bit more globally life-changing. This year’s summer project wasn’t as intentionally planned as those at the outset, but it is emerging, nonetheless: roll around on the floor with my baby daughter and try to see the world through her eyes.  As we are discovering that drink coasters have a front and a back and that bubbles don’t hurt when they pop, I keep finding the tuneful, psychedelic, but ultimately positive, music of the Flaming Lips to be somehow appropriate.  Find more tuneful flaming lips at the Pharmacy…

Ten Bells Tavern Now Open

by Steven Doyle

The new Oak Cliff bar and grill Ten Bells opened their doors this past weekend to a huge crowd of happy revelers. Last minute preparations including building a half dozen picnic tables and pouring a patterned concrete patio literally hours before opening Saturday afternoon.

The energy level was high as the opening celebration and was extremely pet friendly and featured a “pooch pool party and dog wash” fundraiser for Animal Rescue of Texas.              Continue reading
