Deep Ellum Brewing Company Leaving Texas

by Steven Doyle

Deep Ellum Brewing Company is leaving the state of Texas.  Oh, you can still get one of the many fine beers brewed locally at one of dozens of locations across the city of Dallas, and in Austin as well as Houston. But now whenever you travel to Massachusetts you can find the beer on tap.

This week  Tait Lifto (Sales and Brand Ninja), John Reardon (Chief Evangelist) and Tommy Miller (Sales and Delivery) will all make the pilgrimage to Boston to plant the texas flag inside a few pubs. The first to pour the Dallas beer is namesake Deep Ellum, a bar in Allston, Mass. that made Draft Magazine’s top beer bars in America list.           Continue reading

With a big break in the middle, this week flew by at break-neck speeds. This didn’t stop us from missing a meal, in fact it probably helped us a long a bit. Local Garden District Bloody Mary Makes A Splash

by Steven Doyle

Aunt Gladys and her mother Lily knew how to entertain in the old tradition of southern comfort. That is why they always had a mix of their home-concocted bloody Mary mix on hand for guests who might drop in unexpectedly. Today the niece, Stephanie Sanoja has bottled the traditional family recipe for all to enjoy.

In 2008 Sanoja was a marketing director for a firm and left that job to become a full-time mother. We are not sure if sampling bloody Mary’s is part of the mom gig, and if it is we all need to consider this as a vocation, but Sanoja took to experimenting with the recipe to perfect a perfectly balanced product she could bottle and bring to your home in that same gentility her family considered for so many years.          Continue reading

Now Now’s Threads on “Threads”

by Dr. Spin

One of the original mission statements of this blog is to spread the word on more obscure bands whose lack of visibility doesn’t reflect the quality of their work. However, my recent revisit to Wondermints and, subsequently, the new Beach Boys brought to my attention how some aspects of my listening is thickly painted with hues from the past.  With the exception of Field Music’s Plumb, which miraculously fires on both the prog and the pop cylinders, most of the most interesting and fresh songwriting thrown in my current path has been identifiably synth-pop and electronica.  On a reader’s suggestion, however, I discovered Threads from an up-and-coming band called Now Now, and it has me excited again about the potentials of energetic, melodic rock musicPick up the thread at the Pharmacy

East Hampton To Open In Snider Plaza

by Steven Doyle

Look for a new sandwich shop to open in Snider Plaza in the former Jiang’s Cuisine location. The name should be East Hampton and will open this summer.

For those keeping score at home, this as the spot John Tesar wanted for his Spoon’s concept that will now be located in Preston Center.
