Wachu Tacobot Willis? La Grange

by Danielle Leahy     photos by Jacque Manaugh

La Grange changes their menu and throws down the gauntlet

You know when you eat something so wonderful, so perfect, it forever changes how you feel about an entire category of food? Well La Grange’s new Crab Claw “Swanky Taco” just knocked the taco-ball out of the park. It’s been almost 36 hrs since I had my last one and I haven’t really been able to focus on much since other than then thoughts of succulent crab chunks, sweet roasted corn, crunchy red cabbage, and creamy avocado all topped in their amazing Peach Chipotle. Must. Have. More. Crab tacos.   Continue reading

Rhost Opens Quietly And With Aplomb

by Steven Doyle

Rohst, the new Korean-style restaurant on Greenville Avenue has opened its doors, even if it was quietly allowing the staff to shake out any kinks in service before making an official announcement.

The new building that was in the former Terilli’s location has risen from its ashes and made way for a beautiful new structure that although new blends well with the neighborhood.  You may find several nods to the past in the Greenville Avenue Bar and Grill sign planted in front of Rhost, and many photos from the past inside the new restaurant.

Rohst is clean, sleek and inviting inside with a mezzanine level that seats 85 and a rooftop bar that can hold upwards to 100 with a total seating capacity of 400.  Continue reading

Stone Family BBQ Fundraiser‏

by Crave Staff

Diane Mason Fourton of Pecan Lodge Catering and Jill Grobowsky Bergus of Lockhart Smokehouse were so moved by the tragic death of Lt. Shannon Stone at the Texas Rangers Game on July 7, 2011 that they have put aside barbecue competitiveness to help the family of the fallen firefighter with a fundraiser.

The event will feature a barbecue dinner with smoked meats from both Pecan Lodge (D Magazine’s “Best BBQ” in Dallas winner for 2011) and Lockhart Smokehouse (our local Cathedral for carnivores), burnt end pizzas from Il Cane Rosso’s Jay Jerrier along with drinks, music and a live auction. The auction items are being finalized and will be announced soon.

Sponsors include Dallas Farmers Market, Texas BBQ Posse, Full Custom Gospel BBQ, Il Cane Rosso, Edible DFW, craveDFW, Deep Eddy Vodka, Oh* Brownie and US Foods. Local food and barbecue fans wishing to support the Stone family through this exciting event can purchase tickets, priced at $30 each at

Harris, Balke Leave RedFork

by Steven Doyle

We have been following the continuing saga of RedFork and last evening they opened their doors after being closed for several days, except this time without Jeff Harris (formerly of Craft Dallas) and Matt Balke (formerly of York Street).

The executive and sous chef’s of RedFork have officially resigned citing creative differences with the investors. Harris plans to enjoy a couple of weeks at home with his new baby boy before announcing his next venture. In the meantime, it looks like RedFork continues on, “business as usual.” Continue reading

Are You Gilty, Dallas?

by Steven Doyle

Last night I attended the kick-off party for Gilt City Dallas, the steroid version of Groupon that entices its users with promises of exclusive menus prepared by top chefs, tickets to sold-out shows, and A-list pampering at luxury salons — all at mega discounts.

Although I didn’t get any new information from Gilt about the new Dallas venture last evening, I will be hunting down more details in the coming week that should prove beneficial to craveDFW readers.  Continue reading

Vegan Girl: Oui Oui Parigi

by Melissa Brenner

As the plus 100 degree weather continues in our fair state, so does my search for food suitable for the insane heat wave that satisfies my palette.

Even though my scheduled dinner companion stood me up (yeah, you know who you are), I was not left wanting for good company and conversation. One of the greatest things about Parigi is the staff. I was pleased to dine with Diane at the bar while being entertained by Dino polishing the espresso machine in the most sinful manner. (Special thanks to both of you for being so amazing). Dino’s other talent is making sinfully delicious cocktails, which is just what a girl needs to cool off on a hot summer night.  Continue reading

RedFork Closed Until Tomorrow Due to Gas Leak

by Steven Doyle  photo by Robert Bostick

Just spoke with chef Jeff Harris at RedFork and found out the kitchen at his new restaurant has been closed due to a gas-gaffe.  While installing a new pizza oven they smelled gas and had to halt the installation.  After working the problem for two days now, they determined it was the equipment.

“We will have the oven problem worked out by next week but will be open for business tomorrow (Thursday) at 4:00. We went ahead and gave everyone today off,” said Harris just moments ago.

CravedDFW looks forward to sipping the cold, cold cocktails on the patio once again tomorrow evening.  When you go we suggest that you ask for the $8.00 foie supplement  or the roasted mushrooms for the best deal in Dallas.

The city is already in love with his burger.
