People’s Choice Award: Breakfast

by Steven Doyle

As the summer drones on in triple digits for the 23rd day in a row, we continue our search for all the wonderful things Dallas-Fort Worth has to offer.  The people have spoken about their favorite burgers and cocktails, now it is time for breakfast.

Breakfast is one of my absolute favorite meals of the day. There is nothing more satisfying than an egg (unless you add a burger or enchilada below the egg; my favorite self-saucing mechanics).  Continue reading

Trifecta of Rising Stars at Pyramid

by Steven Doyle

The Pyramid at the Fairmont Hotel  in Dallas enjoys an uncommon fact in that they employ three past winners of Dallas Food and Wine’s Rising Star Chefs including Executive Chef Andre Natera (2003 White Wine winner), Executive Sous Chef Paul Peddle (2011 White Wine winner), and Pyramid Sous Chef Andrew McDonald (2011 Red Wine winner).

To celebrate these Rising Stars, The Pyramid Restaurant hosted a dinner this past Friday evening. The “Trifecta at the Pyramid” was a chef’s tasting dinner and live cooking demonstration hosted by the hotel. Each Rising Star Chef prepared an interpretation of their signature award-winning dish, along with a special dessert course by Maggie Huff.  Continue reading

Who Reads Crave?

by Steven Doyle

Who reads craveDFW?  As we reach a whole host of milestones with our little spot on the web (any euphemism to avoid calling this a blog will do)  we enjoy getting out each day and actually meeting the people that make crave so successful for us – the readers.

We truly appreciate the overwhelming joy as we meet the interesting people that follow us in our ramblings. We will continue to work on the things you like best about crave.  Continue reading

People’s Choice Award Cocktail Winner: Komali

by Crave Staff   photos by Joy Jangles

There were so many good cocktails on the People’s Choice list that we simply had to take the time to try them all.  The people voted and Komali won hands down with a large victory for the spirited El Guero, a juicy concoction house-made horchata, Kahlua and Grey Goose vodka.  Another really great drink at Komali is the habanero martini. The spiciness cuts the edge off the Hornitos tequila for a perfect blend of spiciness.  Continue reading

Tales of the Cocktail: Gettin’ Tipsy with It

by Steven Lindsey   photos by Rod Orta

Friday was the first day our team of professional drinkers hit the wall. As in stumbled into it walking down the hall from one of the many tasting rooms. With literally hundreds of cocktails to try, even a sip or two of each is enough to view the world at a consistent 45-degree angle.  Nothing a short nap and a long visit to one of the many Hydration Stations won’t fix. Following are some pics from the last couple of days of Tales. And we’ve heard, they save the best for last. Cheers!

We Like Paper and Chocolate

by Steven Doyle

It wasn’t long ago that we sat with Vicki Peterson from Paper and Chocolate, which is located in the Inwood Village Shopping Center in Dallas,  after we heard she was expanding her lines of chocolate after many years of dedication to her stationary store.  Having just won D Magazine’s Best Stationers award we thought it might be a good time to see what this dedicated entrepreneur was up to.

As we chatted with the whimsical shop owner we found out that paper is certainly not her only love, but also has an extremely vivacious passion for all things chocolate.  But not just any chocolate as you will soon see.  She is a purist and only the best will suit her palate.

After reading this you may wish to visit Paper and Chocolate today as they celebrate the D Magazine victory and offer some unique samples and champagne all day.  If you miss all the hoopla, you can still find her growing inventory at the store where she has slated a major expansion in this area of confections.  Continue reading

Tales of the Cocktail: First Impressions

by Steven Lindsey   photos by Rod Orta

For anyone who loves to drink, Tales of the Cocktail is like an amusement park. We think we’ll call it Boozeneyland. Every minute of every day, there’s something new to discover and we can’t wait to tell you all about everything in detail (which will be in the coming days as there’s not much time to write between sips.)  Continue reading
