The 12th annual Stewpot Alliance Soup’s On! Luncheon and Art Sale will be held Thursday, February 20th at 11:00am at the Omni Dallas Hotel featuring Judge Craig Mitchell as the keynote speaker. Proceeds benefit The Stewpot, now entering its 45th year of service to our homeless and at-risk neighbors, providing meals, medical and dental services, counseling and case management, youth and family stabilization programs, as well as therapeutic and vocational activities.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Craig Mitchell is the founder of the Skid Row Running Club which is featured in the documentary Skid Row Marathon. Founded in 2012, The Skid Row Running Club provides a running program for the Skid Row Community of Los Angeles and involves the larger community in supporting its members in overcoming alcohol/drug abuse and achieving positive life goals. Restaurant Association’s Food in Fashion Event March 2nd

The Greater Dallas Restaurant Association has just announced its fourth annual Food in Fashion event, which will be held at The Virgin Hotel Dallas on Monday, March 2.

Food in Fashion combines North Texas’ restaurant, hospitality, fashion and restaurant industries during a fun-filled evening that benefits career education. Asian Mint and award-winning Chef/Owner Nikky Phinyawatana will host a cooking class at the Asian Mint Inwood location on Saturday, February 8 from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. 

The class will be a hands-on, interactive experience learning how to make Tom Kha, Tom Yum and Fried Rice. These dishes are perfect comfort food in the chilly weather. Tom Kha is a Thai coconut soup and Tom Yum is a Thai lemongrass soup. Recipes can be altered to be made gluten free and vegan if needed. Continue reading

The Clover Club Becomes More of a Supper Club

We just spoke to Eddie Campbell who owns and operates The Clover Club, Standard Pour and Parliament. There has been  some  major adjustments, and improvements at The Clover Club, which is this Uptown Dallas  send-up of the original Bellevue-Stratford Hotel’s Clover Club from the late 1800’s Philadelphia social club which attracted movers and shakers of the day, including moneyed bankers and intellects of the time not too unlike the Midtown Manhattan Algonquin which also attracted a similar heady crowd. January Closures

January 2020  has been a sad month with closures the Dallas restaurant community.

We were rocked by the news of LUCK in Trinity Groves bowing out, with a final blow out last Sunday. We were especially unsettled by this bit of news as over the years we had plenty invested mentally in LUCK and the owners, Chef Daniel Pittman, Jeff Dietzman, and Ned Steel who were all first time restaurant owners. The boys called on us months before opening their  beer-centric restaurant in up-and-coming Trinity Groves having us attend pop-ups around the city as they prepared guests for something truly amazing.
