Lowest Greenville Cools Down Big D

greenville

Summer is just around the corner, but you don’t need a calendar to know that it’s getting hot outside. For many, the rising temperatures means hiding inside with the A/C blasting. But not everyone is so fortunate. So, to assist the community, Lowest Greenville is hosting a fan and window unit drive benefiting Adult Protective Services.

By donating a box fan, window unit or cash money, you can help senior citizens in Dallas who are currently living without air conditioning cool off during the hot summer months. Here’s what you need to know. Continue reading

A Fantastic Burger Find: Stock and Barrel

o (17)by Steven Doyle

In our ever vigilant desire to find the best burgers in the Dallas area we have separated them into two classes, a chef driven burger and the classic burger joint where that seems to be their primary vocation.  This hunt for the very best has led us across the city to some pretty amazing examples of what a burger should be. A great burger means an interesting bun, toasted or not, quality meat, and a smattering of high grade accouterments. This curious chase chase brought us to Stock and Barrel.  Continue reading

Killer Molasses Flood of 1919

by Steven Doyle

Boston has been the scene for many historic events including a particular Tea Party and Paul Revere’s famous ride. It is also the subject of the pop group The Standell’s tune Dirty Water which is a send up to the Charles River. But nothing is more heinous and at once more forgotten than the Great Molasses Flood of 1919. Continue reading

2019 Crave Grill Guide and Reviews

by Steven Doyle

Grilling season is in full swing and it is time you thought about tossing out the old rusty model you have been clinging to for so many years. We have a little guidance in selecting a new model that will not only impress your neighbors, but ease you through many summers ahead. Unlike our pal Hank Hill, we prefer using real charcoal for a better tasting product.

When using charcoal, we recommend natural lump charcoal and not briquettes which can be laced with undesirable ingredients. Lump charcoal burns hot, and with some brands your grill can reach over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. Perfect for grilling steaks. You just can’t get this kind of heat out of briquettes. Plus there is very little waste cleanup with natural charcoal.          Continue reading

Be A Little Piggy At North Main Barbecue

nmb1by Steven Doyle

In the land of buffets we tend to stay clear, but there is one super hot spot you will wish to sample everything – and in abundance.  BBQ can be difficult to monitor unless you have a steady stream of guests filing through, often waiting for the next slice of brisket to fall of onto the line, or a rack of ribs to be hacked into submission. North Main Barbecue stays very busy and for good reason, they have decent BBQ. Continue reading

Norma’s Cafe Honors Former Police Sergeant

Norma's 101

Dallas dining icon, Norma’s Cafe, will partner with Special Olympics Texas on Wednesday, May 22 for the sixth annual Law Enforcement Torch Run’s Tip-A-Cop event. This year’s event is in honor of Sergeant Brad Freis, a former Addison Police Department officer who passed away last July. Sergeant Freis was actively involved with Special Olympics Texas and helped raise millions of dollars for the organization.

Sergeant Freis spent 38 years as a motor officer, sergeant and mentor with the Addison Police Department, and after his retirement, he remained actively involved with the department and surrounding community through Special Olympics Texas. He was a member of the organization’s Presidents Advisory Council, ran and organized the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, and represented Texas at a Special Olympics World Games Final Leg. He was inducted into the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Hall of Fame in July 2016. Continue reading
