Eat Me: Chef Point’s Chicken and Waffles

chef pointeby Steven Doyle

You may have heard of the quirky little restaurant in Wautaga, Texas, Chef Point.  Chef Point offers a full scale menu inside the Wautaga Conoco station, including their award winning burger, a full complement of seafood and steaks with everything in between. Chef Point serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

What really motivated us to drive out to visit the restaurant is the legendary chicken and waffles. And they were every bit as delicious as they were described to us by one of our readers who suggested we try this dish out.  Continue reading

After an epic afternoon feasting on over 1,500 pounds of heritage breed pork raised on family farms, almost 600 guests, including chefs, somms, barkeeps, and notable judges, gathered at Cochon555 Dallas presented by Citi with full glasses to toast the Dallas “Prince of Pork” Chef Bruno Davaillon. Chef Davaillon and his team presented 6 magnificent dishes utilizing 1 whole Hereford-Mangalitsa Cross raised by Chubby Dog Farm. We Checked Out Sprinkles Cupcake (Video)

sprinkles-cupcake-atmby Steven Doyle

You may have heard of the legendary Sprinkles Cupcake ATM located just outside the Sprinkles shop in Preston Center near Northwest Highway. This fun device is where you can get your cupcake on in the middle of the night when the city appears to be abandoned and free of delightful pastries.

If you have ever visited the Sprinkles in Dallas, you no doubt experienced the insanely long lines which often spill out onto the sidewalk just outside the doorway. Wait no further.    Continue reading

Taste A Beer Flavored Jelly Belly

blly beerby Steven Doyle

What is gluten free, fat free, vegetarian friendly, kosher, peanut free and non-alcoholic but tastes like a draft beer? The latest Jelly Belly flavor. The company unveiled the new flavor at the Fancy Food Show in San Francisco recently, and claim it “tastes like your favorite draft beer”. I am so pleased that the new flavor tastes like Peticolas Velvet Hammer, but how did they know?

Anyway, you can purchase online for now at their website. Cost is $8.99 a pound (currently on sale for less) and you get about 400 beans to a bag. That is what the cost of a really good craft beer would set you back locally. Consider this gateway booze. You know, for kids.

There’s A River Of Chocolate At Golden Corral (Video)

gloopby Steven Doyle

Billed as the eighth wonder of the world, the Chocolate Wunderfall at Golden Corral is now fully operational. Here you can share your reach into a splash of warm chocolaty ooze with dozens of strangers, looking gleefully into their eyes as you coalesce bits of marshmallow and fruit into a pool of sweet gluttony.

How can this possibly be a good idea? The fountain has always creeped me a bit, reminding me of Augustus Gloop who nearly drowned in Wonka’s chocolate river.  These are the things that sweet bacterial dreams are made of.     Continue reading
