Couple Lost in Corn Maze

by Steven Doyle

Last Monday while most of the country was happily celebrating Columbus Day a young couple and their 3-month old child entered a corn maze  for their first family on a farm just outside of Boston.

The family entered the maze Monday afternoon and later that evening the family was still wandering the maze, scared, hungry and bitten by mosquitoes so they finally decided to call 911 an hour after the maze had closed for the day.  Continue reading

The Crazy Kolache Lady of Calvert

By Babs Hogan

Drivers are concerned about two things as they approach Calvert, Texas. The first is the speed trap within a mile of the city limits. Second, the mid-town traffic light, which seems to favor red. Frequent travelers on Highway 6 can be lulled as they pass decrepit barns, dry cotton fields, and rusted gates. Unless shopping for western-style furniture, decorative art, or rare antiques are on your list, it’s easy to drift through this four-block town without blinking. But that would be a mistake.    Continue reading

Pie Judges Make Better Lovers

by Steven Doyle

One of the best jobs going at the fair this year (besides the voice of Big Tex) is without a doubt that of the food judge. These are the people that come in each week to review the large variety of cakes, pies, candy and a whole host of categories.

Sure, there are a few oddball categories like Jello molds and Spam bake-offs, but without a doubt happy are the ones judging the pies.         Continue reading

DJ Bryan C’s Naughty and Nice List

by Bryan Coonrod

There are a few openings and closings you might wish to be aware of, and here is the short list.  Many openings about to fly our way towards the end of summer and we will keep you posted.

M Street, the mecca for minors on Greenville Avenue,  has finally closed it’s doors. No word as of yet to what will be in there. Cretia’s on McKinney closed last Saturday and is slated to reopen as The Speakeasy this weekend. Kind of a quick name change if you ask me.  Continue reading

Harris, Balke Leave RedFork

by Steven Doyle

We have been following the continuing saga of RedFork and last evening they opened their doors after being closed for several days, except this time without Jeff Harris (formerly of Craft Dallas) and Matt Balke (formerly of York Street).

The executive and sous chef’s of RedFork have officially resigned citing creative differences with the investors. Harris plans to enjoy a couple of weeks at home with his new baby boy before announcing his next venture. In the meantime, it looks like RedFork continues on, “business as usual.” Continue reading

Bake Sale to Benefit Berry Children

by Crave Staff

On July 2nd when most families were making plans for the holiday, tragedy struck 3 innocent children from Houston, Texas.  Nine-year-old Peter, eight-year-old Aaron and six-year-old Willa lost their parents when a SUV collided head-on with their van near Fort Stockton. The family was returning home from a road trip.

Across the country groups have reached out to provide for the children through a series of fundraisers and bake sales.  Continue reading
