Hey Grandpa, What’s For Supper?

by Steven Doyle

It was a pretty decent culinary weekend for me. Most every Saturday and Sunday I am working the Dallas by Chocolate tours where I am acting tour guide. This is a pretty good way to glide through four or five food destinations in just a few hours, grabbing samples and ideas along the way. For the most part this has been just chocolate and pastry destinations, but look for more savory destinations soon. I will be assembling some mystery tours and hitting some of my favorite hidden gems through out the city. How fun is that?

With this in mind, I wanted to share a few of my favorite bites from the past few days.    Continue reading

Meet Chef DAT of the Soon to Open Mason Bar

by Steven Doyle

In collaboration with Brandt Wood and chef David Anthony Temple will be opening the kitchen at the Mason Bar in just a few short weeks. You may remember Temple, often referred to as Chef DAT. He is the 28-year old chef who has been honing his skills by running a successful series of underground dinners in the Dallas area. Now the DAT has gone legit.

The Mason Bar rests comfortably in its digs at 2701 Gulliot in Dallas in the State Thomas section of Dallas that just borders Uptown. There we find the interesting building which was originally a church in the 1930’s and eventually a Freemason Lodge in 1951. For seven years it was the home for artist James Sasso and the artist has promised to send out some artwork to represent that period.    Continue reading

We are asked about the Sunday School Brunch at Hotel ZaZa  just about more than anything we have talked about on craveDFW. We promised all those avid followers we would keep them informed of the next edition.

If you haven’t heard, the brunch is like no other. Think rave+brunch. It’s the party for those that won’t quit. The food is really cool and you get to play with sparklers while watching the dancing pandas.    Continue reading
