Dallas has always enjoyed a love affair with their brunches and the phenomenon has reached epic proportions it would seem. The lingering patio dining on Saturday or Sunday is definitely a running theme on craveDFW as we send Joy Jangles out each week for her beautiful photo essays on some of the best brunches in town. Sunday Brunch: Blue Plate
by Joy Jangles
With a new year ahead of us, we’re full of new ideas and changes. We’ve become more curious – especially about our food: pushing to connect to our roots again, striving to find the true origins of our ingredients and living life consciously with good energy all around.
At Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen, Chef Rathbun transforms his food memories into his very own version of comfort cooking – where ingredients are seasonal, local whenever possible, and always crafted with the same kind of love and attention that mom would give you as a child. Continue reading

Brunch at Fernando’s
A second location for Fernando’s, a TexMex restaurant that opened at Northwest Hwy and Midway in 2005, has opened. The new Fernando’s is located up top of Travis Walk Shopping Center on Travis near Knox.
We set out on Christmas Eve with a large group to sample the new restaurant’s brunch and to take advantage of the bottomless mimosa situation that costs a mere buck. They were free until the recent flack with the TABC. Seems TABC doesn’t like brunch. Or free mimosas. Continue reading

Sunday Brunch at Oddfellows

Oddfellows, tucked away at the heart of the Bishops Arts District serves up traditional, organic fare in a modern vintage space. The room overflows with an airy natural light with bits and pieces of flair that places you right at home. The rustic wooden tables and chairs combined with a unique concentration in the art of coffe brewing, it’s the perfect spot for a Sunday brunch. Continue reading

Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen Has New Menu and Brunch
Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen is giving DFW something to talk about this holiday season, starting with a new menu, brunch, and custom catering service.
“The new menu features something that everyone will enjoy,” explains manager, Chris DeMers. “You will find all the traditional Italian dishes as well as unique options like Chicken Puttanesca and Veal Francese. This menu is for someone who wants a traditional Italian meal but likes to change it up every once in awhile. There are not many Italian restaurants that can offer 25 well-made pasta dishes.” Continue reading

Bloody Good Brunch: Bistro 31
by Steven Lindsey photos by Rob Orta
In the trailer for Paranormal Activity 3, the young girls whose house is haunted are seen in front of the bathroom mirror chanting, “Bloody Mary! Bloody Mary! Bloody Mary!”—all in the hopes of conjuring up a spirit.
I also chant “Bloody Mary!” multiple times, hoping for a different kind of spirit to appear from thin air. It’s a technique that rarely works unless I’m standing in front of a bar. Yet when I proclaimed this mantra at Bistro 31, I had a truly otherworldly Bloody Mary that made me a believer in not just the supernatural, but the immense skill of GM and mixologist extraordinaire, Marcus Cascio. First Look at Bistro 31
by Steven Doyle photos by Joy Jangles
Alberto Lombardi seems to collect restaurants like a grandmother collects snow globes and Hummel’s. Bistro 31, the latest addition into the fold of the family of restaurants, quickly found its way to the prized spot on the mantel.
The menu hearkens Mediterranean cuisine deftly produced by former Mansion sous Eric Brandt who said the dishes have a flair of French and Italian. Continue reading

A Hidden Gem of a Burger
Let me tell you about this new burger I tried this past weekend at the most unsuspecting place to have one. In fact, when I mention the name you will most likely think I am quite insane for even ordering this new-to-me burger. I spent my brunch time Sunday at Malai Kitchen, the cute West Village eatery that serves up a fantastic twist on Thai and Vietnamese food. Continue reading
