Have you been to Obzeet, the odd restaurant and bar that also sells exotic trinkets and patio accessories? They have one of the most interesting patios in Dallas that looks like a slice of the Caribbean replete with a pond and a tiki bar. This is also where you can find incredible live music in an area void of entertainment. Continue reading

Grace Owners To Open Little Red Wasp
Adam and Caroline Grace Jones will be adding a new restaurant to their repertoire. We just heard that the owners of the beautiful downtown Fort Worth restaurant designed by Caroline will be opening a new concept called Little Red Wasp.
No news on a location or what the restaurant will feature, but we did hear that Grace executive chef Blaine Staniford will be behind the menu which officially makes him a corporate chef. More news as we hear.

Harloff Hired As ExecuChef At Ocho *Updated*
It was just a few weeks ago that craveDFW announced that Joel Harloff was taking leave of Second Floor in the Dallas Westin Galleria. The press release delivered was a bit mysterious on the chef’s departure, but today I learned that Harloff has accepted the executive chef position at Ocho Kitchen and Cocktails. Continue reading

Brent Hammer Leaves Hibiscus For Whiskey Cake
Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar, Plano’s award-winning farm-to-table restaurant, recently named Brent Hammer to the executive team as the concept’s new Chef de Cuisine, leaving Michael Ehlert at Hibiscus as Chef de Cuisine.

Taco Cina Closed
Ace photographer Joey Stewart (who is actually a film maker, but loves to play with us at craveDFW) sent me a text showing me that my favorite queso joint had closed. Taco Cina, which was a bit hidden on the southwest corner of Preston and Royal, served up a few really good crunchy tacos and did a fine job on their chips and queso at a bargain price. Continue reading

Peak And Elm Update: Opens Feb 8
Tonight I will be checking out the menu at Peak and Elm Cocina, the new restaurant which is about to open in East Dallas. We broke the story many months ago so perhaps you do not recall all the fun details, you can read that story here. Basically, it is Jesse Moreno Jr opening his first restaurant outside the La Popular concept which is also in east Dallas and sports an outpost in the Dallas Farmers Market. Continue reading

Andrew Bell At Bolsa Mercado
Andrew Bell is a really good chef who has been looking to set down somewhere firm and presumably enjoyable. He was last seen in the flagship Nosh on Oak Lawn and since then fell off our radar. There were talks of Bell opening his own Nosh in Austin but that never came to fruition. He had worked with Avner Samuels in the past at Aurora. Myth had it he would be the opening chef at JoJo, and actually that was the plan. Continue reading

Reagle Beagle Tells You To Get Stuft
I remember the Regal Beagle when it was a fictitious Santa Monica pub on the horrific television series Three’s Company. Perky Chrissie played by Suzanne Somers pretended to sip beer while her roommates romped around a pool table. Alas, Dallas has its own version of the pub on Greenville Avenue just a bit right of Lovers Lane. Here you will find a typical dive bar with low lights, a handful of televisions and a serviceable day crowd of mixed ages that seem to all know each other and most likely gather often to celebrate the day. And no Chrissie.
Fairly recently Nick Vakidis and Ben Johnson took charge of the restaurant operations inside the Regal Beagle offering spicy wings, house-made jalapeno poppers and a pretty damned good burger they call Stuft. Continue reading
