20 Feet Seafood Joint Slated to Open In About A Week

DSC04767 by Steven Doyle

Last night I caught up with chef Marc Cassel after noticing some heavy activity happening at his soon-to-open Peavey Road seafood restaurant, 20 Feet Seafood Joint. I spotted Cassel readying the space from my perch at Goodfriend and shot him a text asking for a few minutes when he was finished with his business. An hour later the chef grabbed me for a quick tour.

The restaurant will hold about 50 seats and should open in about a week. The time changed every time I asked him, so I stopped asking and settled with the answer I wanted to hear.   Continue reading

More News From Gene and Julie And Their Restaurant Battuto

gatesby Steven Doyle

Back in September we reported that Gene and Julie Gates were closing in on a location for their new rustic Italian restaurant.  I was privileged to join them for a test run with a chef in their home and had a chance to discuss their plans. Yesterday Julie sent word that they would no longer be working at 103.7 after a long and successful eight year stint in this community and planned to stoke the restaurant fires a bit deeper and open sooner than expected.    Continue reading

The Demise of Bailey’s Prime Plus

baileysby Steven Doyle

Last week Ken Kuczwaj invited me to have dinner at the last Bailey’s Prime Plus located in the Shops at Park Lane. During dinner we chatted about how each location had closed, and that the last Bailey’s steakhouse would shutter January 1, 2012. It was a bitter, sweet meal we enjoyed as we savored the last remnants of our Wagyu tomahawk.

Bitter, because the restaurant was actually very good. Chef Ryan Carbery is quite talented and his hand in the kitchen will be missed.   Continue reading
