Alamo Drafthouse Is Coming To Dallas And We Have Details

by Steven Doyle

We have been duly warned that the Austin based movie theater chain, Alamo Drafthouse, is coming to the Dallas area soon. Soon is more like April or May of 2013, but we have plenty to celebrate as we count down the months to its arrival.

Look for plenty of locations in and around Dallas with the first site to be in Richardson on the southwest corner of Belt Line Road in the old Pep Boys location in the Richardson Heights Shopping Center.  The shopping center is predominately occupied by Indian restaurants, grocers, clothing and gift shops, but that is how Alamo rolls. They prefer a very indigenous location that might need a boost of economic juju.     Continue reading

Carla Hall is the new Martha Stewart. The Top Chef All Star and co-host of ABC’s wildly successful  The Chew, has been – like Stewart – a model and finance professional. Stewart was a stockbroker; Hall was an accountant. Both traded careers in business for food and media situations. As beautiful inside as she is to look at, Hall takes America’s love affair with food and chefs over the top.     Continue reading

Scott Walker: A 30th Century Man at the 30th Street Station

by Dr. Spin

When I was growing up, I never really considered public transportation as a viable option. The trains and buses in Austin were always too convoluted, too unreliable. If I have the opportunity, then, to take a train somewhere rather than renting a car, I rather enjoy doing this.

Navigating an unknown train system is eye-opening and rewarding, but also time-consuming. Knowing this, I stacked my phone with several albums, but after 7 hours of travel, and very few places to plug in during layovers, charge time was at a premium. I was,.. recharge over at the Pharamcy.

Vegan dishes by Aubrie Wills

Here’s a picture of the dinner I made the other night. I’ve recently gone vegan and this was my first (very successful) attempt to cook a full on vegan meal for my boyfriend and I.

I made quinoa and black bean burgers with sun-dried tomatoes, topped it with a bunch of veggies and eggplant bacon! Yes, bacon has been the thing I’ve greatly missed since going vegan… and I got this recipe for eggplant bacon and was VERY impressed. Sides included coconut red lentils, breaded zucchini and avocado-potato salad.

Also attached is my lunch yesterday– Vegan Veggie pizza with a beet hummus spread! Just got a whole wheat pizza crust, topped it with beet hummus sprinkled on some almond cheese and then topped it with a bunch of veggies (yellow peppers, squash, cucumber, red onion, and cilantro).

If you’ve got something cooking in the kitchen and like to show it off, send a photo and a brief description to robert@cravedfw.com.
