Last Wednesday, Lake House Bar and Grill, located by White Rock Lake, hosted a whiskey pairing dinner, with food prepared by Chef Ian Tate (So & So’s, Nova). The whiskey, which was provided by Herman Marshall, was served in the form of various cocktails and paired with each of Tate’s dinner’s four courses. Whiskey is not for the weak, however when paired with strong, flavorful dishes, it goes down pleasantly. Continue reading

u0uymGSg

Since 1992, the Tillman’s name has been a part of the Bishop Arts neighborhood, welcoming thousands of guests to enjoy its elevated take on comfort food classics. However, Tillman’s Bishop Arts will be closing its Oak Cliff doors at 2 a.m. New Year’s Day.

Owner Jeffrey Kollinger did not lightly approach the decision to shutter the location. “We have worked with our landlord, Jim Lake Companies, and after much discussion, we’ve decided not to continue our lease here in Bishop Arts,” explained Kollinger.  “We have been so honored to serve Bishop Arts diners, and are looking forward to sharing Tillman’s again in 2020.” Continue reading

While The Statler in downtown Dallas has seen many unfortunate closures with its restaurants in recent months, Fine China still stands. The age-old adage holds that if something ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and while Fine China was already a hit as it was, chef Ryan Carbery (Farmbyrd, Tillman’s) and crew decided to revamp the menu to encompass various Asian cultures.

One of the new cocktails includes the far east, which is Fine China’s take on the French 76. The far east contains Ketel One botanical orange and peach, lemon, sparkling sake and grapefruit bitters. The cocktail glass comes garnished with an edible piece of paper with Asian art on it. Continue reading

Chocolate, for the Ultimate Holiday Gift

Dude-Sweet-Chocolateby Steven Doyle

Chocolate triggers the feel-good endorphins that make you feel even happier than when you kiss someone. Depending on how much you eat, it’s good for your cardiovascular health.  But that’s not really romantic.

It’s velvety, smooth, rich, and sweet – its very nature speaks of luxury. Even the ancient Mayans used cocoa beans as a currency, so you know it’s valuable. A beautifully packed box of handmade chocolate truffles not only tastes delicious but it looks lovely as well, adding that sense of value to the gift. And by choosing a specific box for someone, it shows that you actually took the time to think about what they would enjoy, which makes the gift that much more meaningful. Continue reading
