Local Cheesemonger Will Marry A Beer (And You Are Invited To The Wedding)

DSC04196by Steven Doyle

You may very well know Ali Morgan the cheese maven over at Scardello Artisan Cheese on Oak Lawn in Dallas. She is the local cheerleader for all things cheese. She shouldn’t be a stranger to long tie craveDFW readers; we have featured her cheese antics on several occasions here, and even followed her when she went in for a tat. One of Ali’s missions at Scardello is to peddle cheese wholesale to local restaurants, that is why you will often find an Ali cheese board listed on menus in Dallas. She can also be found doing double duty at beer or wine dinners where she pairs up her cheese.

To say Ali has an offbeat sense of humor might be an understatement, but she has this amazing passion for things she enjoys most. One of those things is a good craft beer. Ali is so passionate about beer that she plans to marry one December 30, 2012 and you are invited to witness the ceremony at Peticolas Brewing Company for a mere $30, which includes four hours of beer, a special commemorative wedding pint glass and the open keg reception where you can taste Velvet Hammer, the groom.  Continue reading

Balcony Club Celebrates 25th Anniversary

balconyby Judy Chamberlain

More than two decades ago, Dallas resident Tommy Stanco, an avid gourmet cook and former professional children’s entertainer, combined his love of hospitality and music to create an aura that would transform Lakewood’s Balcony Club from a simple piano bar to a haven for live music and Texas-sized camaraderie featuring as many as 70 bands each month.

Stanco – who went to work at The Balcony Club as a bartender on Valentine’s Day 1990 and bought the place from original owners Burke and Jo Barr – has been its sole owner for over twenty years. Recently, he added his own band to the roster of regulars on the club’s calendar. Continue reading

Bourdain Stumbles Upon Secret Service Kegger

bourdainby Steven Doyle

We weren’t sure if Anthony Bourdain was pulling our leg when we saw his Tweet this past Sunday evening that said “The guys who rented our phones in #Myanmar before us were Secret Service. They should really have deleted their texts. #Kegparty!” We are used to a certain irreverence from Bourdain as it is part of his charm, however State Department officials took notice of the message that went out to his million followers.  Continue reading

A Fall Menu To Be Thankful For: Dragonfly

by Melissa Robert

As November draws to a close we have heard the many beautiful and heartwarming things that our friends and family are thankful for. Personally, I’m thankful for an amazing fall menu. The particular Dallas restaurant that has given me this attitude of gratitude is none other than Dragonfly inside the Hotel ZaZa. The Fall 2012 menu, which was introduced approximately 2 weeks ago, is filled with flavorful and elegant dishes that we have come to expect from Executive Chef Dan Landsberg. Landsberg, who made a name for himself at Tillman’s Roadhouse and Stephan Pyles Restaurant, has been with Hotel ZaZa since February of last year.    Continue reading
