I could eat $200 worth of East Hampton Sandwich Co. sandwiches in one sitting. Of course I would start with the lobster roll, and work my way through the line up to that fried crispy chicken sandwich. You have an opportunity to do just that if you win the sandwich shop’s contest they are running through the month of December.
To win a $200 East Hampton gift card merely post any picture on Instagram relating to East Hampton Sandwich Company with the hashtag #EHsandwich. Now the photos do not actually have to be their sandwiches, it could be a homemade suggestion for new soup or sandwich. One of of our very favorite pizzas in Dallas comes out of a kitchen in a dive bar in Dallas. Bryan Street Tavern is the home of some fantastic kicked up bar fare, but the pizza is why so many go to this neighborhood tavern. That, and the wall of tasty local craft beers. It is definitely a weekly go to spot for me.
Some time back the owners of Bryan Street Tavern invited me to come up with a pizza combination that they could name craveDFW. Flattered, I started working on a recipe of toppings. I consulted some chef buddies over many Velvet Hammers and shots of Tullamore DEW. We had pie charts, graphs and even a flow chart that detailed how the pizza would be made. In the end I suffered the frustration that I wasn’t happy with any of the ideas that would take on crave’s name. Continue reading

You remember Psy, the viral K-pop star who was responsible for that whole Gangnam thing. He is about to embark on a world tour and needs a chef to cook for him. So naturally he made a YouTube video about it rather than write a help-wanted ad. It is all part of a promotion with Bibigo, a Korean food web site.
The rules of the contest require candidates to upload videos of the cooking skills. The winner will receive two weeks training and take on the role of Psy’s chef for a month starting July 31, 2013. The salary is $40,000 plus expenses. Not a bad gig. Continue reading

I love making homemade pasta, and use a hand cranked pasta roller that is attached to my kitchen counter to achieve just the right thickness of dough sheets according to the style of pasta I want to make at home. Recently I was in a professional kitchen and smiled when I saw the same $25 device screwed into a counter. There are attachments for your electric mixers to make this job easier, but I have been fond of the crank method and continue to use this device. Continue reading
