French for “a small bag of herbs and spices,” Sachet will be a fun, warm and inviting restaurant with a fresh, light menu that’s inspired by the flavors of the Mediterranean coast, drawing from a broad array of countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Lebanon, Israel, Turkey, Tunisia, and Morocco. Dallas Raw Oyster Primer

crave9by Joey Stewart

The taste of Oysters can start a lively debate, but if you are a serious bivalve eater you know that Dallas has dozens of spots serving some of the best in the world. With over three hundred varieties in the US it’s one of the most diverse foods you’ll ever eat. Do you prefer the briny taste of east coast oysters, or the sweeter ones from the west? How about oysters from the south?

That’s an old school train of thought that we don’t produce great oysters in Texas or the Southeast. Regardless, here’s a list, in no particular order, of some of the top spots in Big D to get your fix on. We won’t list any spots that “rinse” their oysters before they serve them. That’s blasphemy to oyster addicts. Every restaurant will have different varieties on different days, but we’ve listed some of their more popular and recent selections.   Continue reading

Eat Me: Roasted Baby Artichokes At Gemma

20141207_204752_1

by Steven Doyle

Gemma opened up just one year ago the day after Christmas and has fast become one of my favorite restaurants in the Dallas area. The clean, well rounded menu is always seasonal, always interesting, with some bold flavors done simply delicious.

One of my happy go-to appetizers is this roasted baby artichoke dish that is served with wild arugula, poached farm egg, and a Provençal vinaigrette. I have made a quick meal of this dish with a few oysters  paired up with one of the by-the-glass sparkling wines for a perfect repast.   Continue reading

Baked Oysters 2by Steven Doyle  photos by Joey Stewart

Husband and wife restaurant duo, Allison Yoder and Stephen Rogers opened Gemma on Henderson Avenue December 26th in 2013, nearly one month ago today. The couple were warned of the location in a strip center where many restaurants had failed in the past due to high rents, but the property had been taken over by a new management team that felt that the fresh menu and cozy digs were ideal for that tract of Henderson which is soon to be taking on a new life of its own with many new additions in coming months.      Continue reading

Dallas’ newest restaurant created by husband and wife duo, Allison Yoder and Stephen Rogers will open December 26th 2013 for dinner.  Located at 2323 Henderson Avenue, Gemma promises to offer a fresh and modern American seasonal menu with ethnic influences in a welcoming and comfortable setting.

Allison Yoder will act as general manager, while her chef husband Stephen Rogers will run the kitchen.  Rogers says his food is “simple, uncomplicated, rustic but refined”. He manipulates recipes from all different regions and countries around the globe to bring a simple yet boldly flavorful experience.  Taking inspiration from Asian, Italian, Mediterranean, French cultures and more, Rogers says, “ I am not trying to reinvent the wheel. I want to showcase the ingredients of my recipes and deliver a product that our guests will crave.”  Rogers purchases his proteins and veggies from small American farmers and producers and works a great deal with vegetables as an accompaniment.    Continue reading
