National Burger Month Continues With A Tour Of DFW Area Del Frisco Grilles

fw burgerby Steven Doyle

May is National Burger Month and Del Frisco’s Grille celebrates with a burger of the month at each of their restaurants in the DFW area. All three locations in Uptown Dallas, Southlake Town Square and Fort Worth’s Sundance Square are participating with a unique burger specially created by their respective chefs.

First stop on the Del Frisco burger tour is the “Bass Fort Worth Chili Burger” which is featured at Del Frisco’s Grille Fort Worth in Sundance Square. This burger has a base of chili, bacon, beef, onions, and cheese. This burger is dedicated to the memory of Executive Chef Russ Huey and incorporates bread from Empire Bakery. Executive Chef Carter Reyenga said, “It is two American classics in one. Chili and a burger. Two prime beef patties topped with house ground prime chili that is slow braised with Bass beer. It is topped with shredded cheddar, diced onions and sloppy sauce. All fitting between a local brioche bun.”    Continue reading →

Uptown Hopdoddy Open June 2

DSC01992by Steven Doyle

More burgers coming your way as the very popular Hopdoddy Burger Bar is busy putting finishing touches on the new location in Uptown. The McKinney Avenue location is located across the street from Del Frisco Grille at 3227 McKinney. Hopdoddy was created to express the union of burgers and beer: Handcrafted Beer (Hop) + (Doddy), the nickname given to the native cow in Aberdeen, Scotland. Look for daily in-house ground hormone and antibiotic free Black Angus beef, fresh baked  buns from scratch, and hand-cut Kennebec potatoes for their fries.   Continue reading →

Saturday Brunch Starts at Del Frisco’s Grille in Uptown

IMG_3823.640x480

by Andrew Chalk

It is 11:01 on Saturday morning. As I stare out of the window at Del Frisco’s Grille in Uptown, I feel sorry for the crowd opposite outside Bread Winners. Not only do they have a 30-minute wait to look forward to but, at the end, they will be paying similar prices for similar things in dowdier surroundings as I am here – but without the wait. Crab Benedict is $15.50 vs. $15.99 at Bread Winners. The pork burrito is $14.00 vs $12.99 for a chorizo one (with potatoes). The red velvet waffle is $12.50 vs. $11.98 for a strawberry and cream waffle with 2 strips of bacon. The fresh orange screwdriver, made with Tito’s vodka, is $5 vs. (apparently) N/A at Bread Winners.   Continue reading →

First Look: Barter

barter3by Steven Doyle

The latest restaurant to open in Dallas is Barter located in the space previously held by Private Social. Look for the same ownership, except now they have taken on a partner in chef Tim Love. Love of course is the owner of the wildly successful Lonesome Dove in the Fort Worth Stockyards, as well as Queenie’s Steakhouse, The Woodshed and Love Shack. The menu that Love designed is an eclectic mix that only can be described as New American. That is the lovely term we use when we really cannot define a menu. I suppose there is a slight Asian bent to this menu, with many flavors from the East as in the starter dish, the soft shell crab taco that is adorned with a chili sauce but  garnished with cotija in this fun sort of East Meets West mash up. It is a beautiful dish.

Other notable starts include the poutine that is kicked up with a wild turkey gravy and cheddar curds. Poutine is a dish that is popping up on menus everywhere and seems to be the hot new item. These are definitely addictive and the portion is enormous, so definitely count on sharing.    Continue reading →

Origin Kitchen + Bar Opens Today

DSC09255by Steven Doyle

Origin Kitchen + Bar will officially open today, Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at 4438 McKinney Ave, Ste. 150.  The restaurant concept – created and owned by Russell and Jessica Aldredge – features rustic California-inspired cuisine that will serve dinner, with a bistro-style breakfast, lunch and coffee bar.

“During a trip to Portland last year, we had the meal of our lives at a small French restaurant and knew the style and ambiance was what we wanted to recreate in Dallas,” said Jess and Russell. “We want people to have an experience when they dine with us and feel like they are part of the process.”    Continue reading →

What We Are Craving Now: Common Table

grilled cheeseburgerby Steven Doyle

The Common Table has a new menu they just released and it is looking mighty tasty. Check out this Spicy Grilled Cheese Hamburger with Bacon and Jalapeños. We called this a patty melt back in the day, but we never beefed it up with grilled jalapeños. We were young then and didn’t know any better.

You can’t get much better than this on a cooling Thursday evening. Get out now before the Wintery mix hits. If you go today you might be able to tap into some of the remaining DogFish Head leftover from last night’s big event. If you are missing Tait Lifto from Deep Ellum Brewing Company, you can find him at Common Table now – always with the terrific beer advice.

Chef Paul Singhapong To Open CrushCraft In Quadrangle

malai2by Steven Doyle

I remember Paul Singhapong from Beau Nash at the Crescent Court Hotel in Uptown. The renowned chef also worked alongside Kent Rathbun at the Melrose, Dean Fearing at the Mansion and an illustrious stint at the French Room where he enjoyed a five star rating. You may recognize his name from a few reports on craveDFW  (here and here, and here) where he made a beautiful meal for a handful of guests at Malai Kitchen.

Today we are sent word that the Thai chef will be opening a restaurant in the Quadrangle along with restaurateur Jack Nuchkasem, and it will be called CrushCraft. We will make this easy by publishing the release below. Dallas i getting all Thai happy, right? Continue reading →
