I spoke with Central 214’s executive chef Graham Dodds some months ago about Eden Creek Farms. They experienced a particularly rough 2011 due to the drought, and 2012 hasn’t been any easier. At that time Dodds mentioned that Steve and Kristine Orth might actually give up on their farming efforts, and it would be sad to lose this organic, bio-dynamic, bio-intensive and sustainable source of produce. Joie de Vivre: Uchi is Opening in Dallas
I was in Austin this weekend for the Texas Monthly BBQ Festival and couldn’t pass up an opportunity to finally try Uchi.
The sake apparently went straight to my husband’s head because he insisted on the ten-course Chef’s tasting menu. Normally this tough guy dry heaves at the very thought of eating Aquaman’s sea friends. Chartroom In Key Allegro, Rockport
Finding something besides fried seafood and burger restaurants along the Texas coast can be challenging, so we are thrilled to have found an alternative on the island of Key Allegro, Rockport, in the form of six-month-old Chartroom.
Executive Chef Chris Veatch (far right) and his team boast a serious experience level as well as degrees from the New England Culinary Institute and Le Cordon Bleu
Located in a scenic setting on the marina, Executive Chef Chris Veatch aims to provide a finer dining experience to the area. “Our menu is upscale American, using only fresh ingredients. Everything, including sauces, is cooked to order. Nothing is held over. Even our desserts are made in-house,” he reports. “The focus is fresh, Gulf Coast seafood, but we’ve also created some interesting meat and poultry dishes.” Continue reading

Big Tex moseyed on over to his perch at the Texas State Fair. His favorite spot is just in front of the Fletcher’s Corny Dog Stand where he stares down that the hundreds of thousands of people slop up their meat sticks with copious amounts of mustard. Continue reading
